ESU's LokProgrammer on Linux (and Mac OS X) - Virtual machine solution
Decided to post my progress on using ESU's Lokprogrammer on my Linux box, without resorting to dual booting (we're a family of 4 who switch accounts and don't log out them, so it's not really an option), or using a second computer/laptop running Windows. I had a friend coming over yesterday, Marlus, another model railroader in the Montreal area, who was kind enough to bring his Lokprogrammer to do some tests and see if we could get it working. And we had good success!
Loksound issue?
I have several Loksound Select decoders running on an NCE-powered HO layout. Several of them run just fine. Others start properly, but once they get to moderate speed, a problem crops up. The sound cuts out and the loco starts to jerk down the track at regular and short intervals while the decoder makes a zzt-zzt-zzt-zzt sound. The sound and jerking coincide and there are about four such "beats" per second. The loco stops responding to commands.
UT4R battery leads +/- ??
Hi all, I have a Digitrax UT4R that the battery wires came off of the circuit board. Can anyone tell me which is the positive and which is the negative? Looking at the PC board from the back of the throttle in the upright position, is it the left inboard tab or the right outboard tab.
I am replacing the SPDT switch and accidentally pulled the short wires off the board. Thanks!

Digitrax Throttle upgrades
I have always been a pro Digitrax user as the loconet architecture is so widely and universally helpful for computer control with other manufactures. With that said, They have had my first 2 throttles for 30 working days and still are not complete. Is this normal, do they wait till the last day to upgrade them? Whats it take to pop these open, remove a pc board and slap a new in? Service is part of business, do they get it?
Thanks for rant
Mike

Big thanks to the technical support department at ESU!
There are times when some companies just stand out and go the extra mile. ESU is one of them. I had reached out to Intermountain asking why my HO SD40-2 with factory installed DCC and sound didn't have a function for the ditch light to flash with the horn being blown. The leaflet enclosed didn't show any CV's related to lights, just sound and horn. The person told me they don't do that, but would have someone call me back to discuss this. This was on Tuesday. As of today they still haven't called me back (shame on them).

Mounting NCE's USB adapter
I have just set up a permanent test track near my desk/workbench. I can switch easily between my PowerCab and DC for testing purposes. I want to permanently mount my NCE USB adapter so I can use JMRI when programming without having to hook up a bunch of wires.
Does anyone know of a case or mounting gear for the NCE USB adapter? I'm thinking someone with a laser cutter or perhaps a 3D printed thing might be out there already.

Going deadrail with Railpro
I've been curious as to how easy it would be to go full batter-powered with Railpro for some time. I've seen a few other people do it, so I figured I'd give it a try myself. Below is a quick overview of how I went about it.

Consisting consists: Helpers.
I think I know the answer, but I'll ask anyway.
Do the DCC manufacturers not support consist consisting yet? (I currently have an NCE Power Pro and setup up my consists as Advanced Consist)
I ask because what I want to do is run my trains with three units in a consist, with three units as helpers in their own consist. At the summit (Tennessee Pass) I would cut off the helpers and return them to Minturn.

Need help/advice please Re: Choice of locomotive control
Hi,
Just planning on getting back into the hobby after some years away and have about 10 or 12 locomotives kicking around ( Mostly older Athearn over 20 years old and none DCC. )

Digitrax Throttles going to IDLE
Okay so I have been using my DB150 Super Empire Builder, to test out track work as I build it. No loco net was ran just track wire. Small section of isolated layout about a 16x8x6 J shaped section. I was simply using a lone UR91 with a 2ft cord while testing things. Plug in my DT400R, aquire my engine, unplug, and then run trains around.
So the other night I decide to set up some LocoNet. Run a line and put in two UP5's a UR91 and a UR90.
