Switching power supply DOA - chance to learn.

Hello,

I've kept a 12 volt switching power supply that I want to use to light my layout area.  It is one of three.  It was DOA, the other two worked and I thought worst case I'd get a parts box....  and maybe a little time on the learning curve.

Kudos to MRC!

I recently had my Prodigy Express system repaired by the folks at MRC.  System came back better than ever!  I had inquired about having my system repaired and possibly upgraded and that is exactly what came back!

I use the express system as a bench testing model and had been unable to program on the programming track for some time and then one day the hand held went haywire and it was toast.  I had been using it as a second throttle on my layout when I was not at the workbench.

A thought for Eric Miller.

Hi Eric et al,

Two pictures...

Before Dremel

After Dremel.

Hope this helps.

Where to Connect Power

Hi All,

Quick question - I'm getting ready to connect power to the layout, but I'm wondering where the best place would be to actually place the booster, and power the buss wires? The layout is a 40'x2', and so I'm wondering if I should connect the booster near the middle of layout, or either one of the ends (it's point-to-point, so equally heavy usage on both ends).

Thanks for anything in advance!

Fun Morning

I've shared that I'm returning to the hobby after quite awhile. This morning I fired up my new NCE Powercab and first ever sound equipped loco. I might be getting in after this stuff has been around awhile, but I'm hooked. :)

Labeling layout wiring

I use 3M SLS Write-On Wire Marker Dispenser with good results. The more electronics one uses, the amount of wiring seems to greatly increase.  You need a good system to label as you go and the 3M product works for me.

Cleaning Rail, Liquid Cleaner or No

I use a Brightboy cleaning block on my HO track for general cleaning and once a month or so use electrical contact cleaner on the rail head.

However, a couple of layouts I have visited this month the owners insist a Brightboy or similar product is all you ever need.  My suggestion of a liquid track cleaner was dismissed outright.

Soldering question

When soldering rail joiners or feeder wires, I first use liquid flux on the area to be soldered.  Afterwards, is it necessary or advisable to use a toothbrush and some 70% isopropyl alcohol to clean the joint?

Dr. Geoff Bunza and SMA 12

The SMA 12 Arduino decoder is a great help, however having more than 100 turnouts on the layout, is there an option to enter 4-digit addresses in the Arduino? I think currently they only work with 2-digits.

Many thanks for your feedback!
Mark
