Airbrushing rails

I got this air compressor and airbrush about 4 years ago and never used it.

I would like to try to paint the side of my primed rails using an airbrush.

Any dos or don't would be much appreciated or links for a novice such as myself.

Proto 2000 SW9 DCC Problems

Looking for some advice of a HO Proto 2000 SW9/1200 (920-41418) with factory installed sound decoder. Purchased the unit at a show, and after getting on the track discovered that the sounds work OK, but the engine motion seems to be incorrect. Unfortunately no manual with the box, so I can't figure out what settings may be. The engine initially was sluggish moving so I cleaned the wheels (although they didn't look bad) and noted a little improvement and the engine moved just fine.

someone "let the smoke out"

I bought an almost brand new Broadway Limited SD40-2 that would not run and would short the DCC. Hey, it was like $29... So, I think that was worth the risk?  After taking the engine apart, here is the fried circut board I found. The smell is horrible...  i can't tell if it is just the circuit board that is smoked or if the motor has issues too.

A question and a small gripe

I have a NCE starter system and the removable power cord, got moved to the pile of chords. Can someone look at theirs to tell me the output of the power plug. I looked in the manual and it says nothing.

And what part of good design makes it so common to ignore this simple little detail. Which is to label your equipment, including detachable plugs, so we can establish ownership a little easier...

Hand laid track process

Hi all,

After initial construction of my fist module I am starting to hand lay my track. You can see the lie of the track in the image below. I have a Fast Tracks Nn3 #5 jig and components to built plenty of track for my Russian narrow gauge TT logging line. See post on my track plan HERE.

BLI SW-7 w factory sound stopped responding

So I'm switching the freight house on the module that is finished enough to run trains on and the SW-7 just stopped.  No short indicated, no burning electric smell, it just stopped moving and the sound stopped.  The headlight works but that's it.  It's a dual mode engine and won't run on DC either.

Any ideas?  I'm using a Digitrax DCS-50

Trackwork

Has anyone tried using CV ties as individual ties?  I would like to have very wide spacing between the ties for an industrial yard.  Even the CV branchline ties aren't spaced out very much.  I was thinking of making skeleton track with hand spiked wooden ties and then filling in with CV ties.  The wooden ties might need to be shimmed.  Tie spacing in yards can be up 30" on center.  Ties were spaced closer only under the rail joints.

ME track code 55!

Today I had a big surprise... ME is making code 55 HO track again! I was about to start hand laying code 55 track for the spur and team track on my modules project, but now all I have to do is space the ties to depict branch line tracks's spurs.

Circuitron AR-1 question

I need help understanding the Circuitron AR-1 on a single loop track layout. I understand the train leaving the mainline going through the wye crossing over the sensor and the AR-1 switching the loop to match the main line. I can see the train crossing over the insulators and the polarity matches. I do not understand what goes on as the train starts to leave the loop and crosses over the other insulators. I would think it would short out at that point because the track come back on it's self at the wye and has reverse polarity.
