Homemade spike methods

Some time ago, I remember reading about a guy who created his own spikes using thin metal rodding (think desktop staple size).  The process was bending it ninety degrees, then laying side cuts right up against the long side and snipping it.  That would leave the (now very) short side just long enough to hold down the base of the rail.  The metal was hard enough that it could easily be driven into the roadbed (so not brass) and soft enough to bend easily (so not piano wire).

RR Circkits Watchman

I'm struggling with the installation of an RR Cirkits Watchman for use with block detection on my layout.

I've configured the watchman according to the instructions and have wired it to a single CT Coil attached to a drop feeder on one of the blocks I've set up on the layout.  What I can't figure out how to do from the manual directions is how to 'read the signal' from the CT Coil and have it change the state of the block on my JMRI control panel schematic to show the occupied block.

Any help would be very much appreciated.

Train Detection Circuit - stand alone

Lift Out Section Wiring

Hi gang. I'm hoping someone can point me in the right direction. I'm helping a friend with the electrical aspects of a lift out section at the doorway to his layout room. He needs to have stopping blocks on each side of the doorway so trains can't drop into the abyss. What I would like to set up for him is a relay on each side of the doorway that will be actuated by a limit switch. The limit switch will be actuated by placing the lift out section into position. The relay normally open contacts will close and power the stopping blocks.

AUX2 pad on Loksound Select Micro?

Happy New Year everyone!

I have a used Loksound Select Micro I received in trade from a friend with no documentation (photo below).  I'm trying to wire ditch lights, but the layout of the solder pads doesn't match what I see in the Micro diagram on page 11 of the Select users manual.

Looking at the 5 solder pads along the edges near the end where the wires are attached in the photo below (3 on the left, 2 on the right), would someone please tell me which pad is AUX2 (commonly mapped to F6) on this decoder?

Installing a keep alive in an MRC 1730

Has anyone installed a keep alive  in an MRC 1730 which is in an Athearn CF7 ? Looking for hookup points for the two wires.  I like the MRC but it drops out at times going thru my Fast Track turnouts at low speeds and I have a switching layout.   Thanks in advance.  Zeke

Allagash design questions

Mike, how did you accomplish the broad curved ladder at the left (South?) end of New Sharon Yard? Were you able to manipulate the ME #6 turnouts or did you go with Fast-Tracks Twisties? John Colley, Sonoma, CA

New SoundTraxx Tsunami2 Stopped Working... Help?

I just installed a new SoundTraxx Tsunami2 EMD Diesel PNP sound decoder in a Kato GP35 that I finished working on two days ago.  It tested fine and ran well, so I finished programming everything through JMRI using the mainline programming on my NCE Power Pro system.  Then yesterday I took it to my inlaw's house to show my family.  They have a small DC track and knowing that the Tsunami2 can work on it, I ran it several times there and it did fine.  However, on one of the runs, it sputtered quickly about four times and just stopped.

Code to implement an Automatic Block Signal System using an Arduino

Hi Everyone,

Here is the code to implement a fully functional ABS signal system using the Arduino Uno or ProMini.  The code is open source to please feel free to copy and modify it as you choose.  Please let me know if there are any questions.

Cheers, Dennis Drury
