On the prowl for layout ideas
Hi there chaps... this is my first post after some time away from here. I'm going to shortly be moving into a new house with a double garage and one of my goals is to build a small layout in there. As I have two cars, a multitude of bicycles, and the usual guy stuff that ends up in a garage, I'm thinking a shelf layout, probably point to point, will be the way to go.

Justifying a Double Track mainline
Here's the problem. I have a town that I want to put in two double track bridges, and because of certain scenic issues, I need to put two tunnels in. Now, unfortunately, this town is actually a siding for a single track mainline. No railroad would ever spend the kind of money for tunnels and bridges for a passing siding, that would be ridiculous. So I am attempting to come up with a good back story to justify this as I can't relocate the bridges and or the tunnels, and I need a siding at this location. The tunnels exist because I need to hide some utili
Carolina Division - a new layout
After many years arm chair modeling and planning, I have started to work on a new layout. This will be my first “real” layout. I did built a small 4 x 8 one, years ago when the kids were little. It will be a point to point switching layout of modular construction.

Yet another sad day for the Sunset and North Eastern
I have been posting news of the S&NE over the last year and felt that I was finally getting somewhere with a permanent HO layout. If you remember, I had written some software to do the scheduling and was getting on wth the scenery and the structures. However, physically, things have been getting worse - rheumatoid arthritis in the lower back is the issue here. I set the level of the layout to be the same as kitchen units - mainly so that I could get an under the counter freezer in the room.

Creating turnout control panel help
Hey guys I have a room in the house that is like 12 by 12 and I have a table that is 4x12 N scale. My computer desk is in one corner. I left about a ft on one side so as to reach everything. So on the side with the most room (which isn't much) I need to make a control panel and I have no idea how to start. Track is laid with a small second level but most of it is on the lower level.

Looking for experts with building insulation and cost/benefit analysis of adding additional insulation reducing heating/ac costs
If there is anyone who has expertise with doing estimates in terms of how much reduction in heating/cooling costs occurs for each additional inch of insulation that is added to the walls and ceiling, I would greatly appreciate it. As work continues on the Interim P&A, the future home of the Final P&A Layout is being designed, and hopefully in the next 3 years, ground will be broken for the house expansion to accommodate it. To have a better cost estimate for the cost of the building, I need to determine how much insulation to have in the walls. As absurd as it may

Adding a room to the house for a layout
I am new to model railroading, I've been involved in the hobby about 9 months. During that time I've collected some locomotives and rolling stock but had no place in my house for a layout. This past February I decided to enclose part of my covered patio to add a sun room which is where I will build my layout. The room is 20' x 12' 8". I've reached the stage of construction where I am installing the electrical. I hope to have some track down by the end of the year. I welcome your comments and suggestions.
