Dream and design

How dangerous would it be to space HO Tangent Track 1.5" on center?
I have a need for two short staging tracks for an interchange with another railroad, and to fit it in the space I have for it, requires the straight sections to be spaced 1.5" on center instead of the usual/typical 2" on center. As I measure most of the equipment I have (modeling circa 1953) I believe there should not be any clearance issues. I don't intend to run locomotives on these sections of track, they only are for the incoming and outgoing cars for interchange throughout the operating session. Has anyone successfully done this without issue?

Where is the best place to Post Prototype Photos online?
Like many others, I have a very large collection of prototype photos.
I've been considering posting them online, but I am wondering where is the best place to do that?
All suggestions welcome!

New room, to carpet or not
I'm building a new layout room. It is a shared space - trains runing around the walls. I'm trying to decide whether to use the roll of carpet I've been saving. I'm tending toward ditching the carpet and installing floating floor. The carpet would offer better fatigue resistance standing there working on the layout - kneeling underneath etc. But the floating floor is probably easier to build around, easier to clean up paint spills and solder splashes etc. The floating floor has foam underlay too, just not as thick as the carpet. Thoughts?

Design Software
I am looking for a free I hope, design software that will allow me to do structure drawings. Does Xtrac software work or do I need something else?
thanks, Jack
Train Length
Gents,
As a plan my Multi Deck layout, I question yards and length of trains... I for one am not in the hobby to "reinvent the wheel." What is a good yard size to give the appearance of long trains as they curve around the layout but also give the feel of a heavy haul as I will be modeling the Rio Grande mid 80's to mid 90's with lots of locos?
Is 30 coal cars not enough or is 45 to many with at least 3 locos up front and 2 mid train?
HOn3 EBT in a 10' x 12'?
Hi all,
I'll be moving into an apartment and will have a 10' x 12' bedroom for a layout and office/work area. What I'm looking for is an operations oriented HOn3 East Broad Top track plan (single or double deck) that includes major points, both scenic and operations wise, and an area in the room for a workbench/computer desk. Any ideas? Thanks!

Critique: HO 9x1' Shelf
Hi all,
Hoping to get some feedback on a design I've been working on. Originally i was building a N scale switching layout - I'd made a lot of progress, but the small size of parts combined with the lack of DCC sound and poor slow running have made me frustrated with N scale.

8 x 9ft Modular switching layout
Hey all,
I've been designing and re-desiging my layout and I think I've come up with something I'm reasonably happy with however I wanted to see if anyone had any tips or advice on the current design?

Suggested Switching layout for the Sunset & North Eastern
I decided to cut out the pencil drawings as I always end up with too much track for the real space. I placed the two halves of the layout together. At 3' x 1' 4" they sit nicely in a line of the dining room table. I got out my points - a selection of Peco #5 electrofrog points and started laying them out to get me what I wanted. I wanted a nice runaround, a place for the switcher to refuel et.c amd I wanted to incorporate my Walthers coal yard, which required a steep run up to the coal drops.
