Diesel locos

What does it take to get a model produced in outside of brass?

Edit:  I am not asking about the cost of producing a model, nor am I asking what the final cost would be.

Hello all,

Im looking for input from any manufacturer, or someone with knowledge in the model railroad industry.

My new loco

Now days you place an advance order for a loco and it may or may not be produced. I completely forgot that I had ordered a Rapido  Alco FA-2 with DCC and Sound from Tony's.  When I got the notice that it had been produced and was ready to ship they sent an invoice and my wonderful wife said "Go ahead and get it - you haven't bought anything for a long time for the railroad".  After hugging and kissing her I paid the invoice and this beauty arrived yesterday.  It looks, sounds, and runs great!

Athearn RTR SW1500 RF&P

HI THERE! Does anyone know 1)where I can possibly find an Athearn RTR SW1500 in the RF&P paint? 2) does anyone know anyone who is willing to sell one?

None exist online anymore and I missed the one that was just on Ebay. Does anyone have any suggestions??

IAIS's West End - GP8 481 - one ugly girl - DONE

An old Jimmy Soul song, "If You Wanna Be Happy" , tells us...

"If you wanna be happy for the rest of your life
Never make a pretty woman your wife
So for my personal point of view
Get an ugly girl to marry you"

What N-gauge diesel to buy?

After 20 years out of the hobby I am now back and building a DCC++ N-scale 4' x 2' switching layout with cassette staging to left and right. The layout will be freelance and I am pretty lax as to specific time-frame or rail line. Being in Canada, though, I have a preference for CN and/or CP equipment. The layout will principally switch cars but will also have through-freight and passenger trains to add interest.

IAIS's West End - A transition era for modern modelers

We often hear of the "transition era" referring to the final years of steam running alongside early diesels in the mid- to late-1950s.  As someone born post-steam and who prefers to model what I've actually seen, I've never had an interest in basing a layout on that period.  However, there have been many more transition eras since then, and I've found that the opportunity they afford to model the juxtaposition of old against new can add a lot of interest to our modeling.

My Front Range/Kato GP9 Kitbash Project, With Videos

Since the beginning of the year, I have been working on adding another locomotive to my shortline fleet.  After much thinking and deliberation, I decided to model a proto-lanced South Omaha Terminal GP9.  This blog post will go through all the major steps of this locomotive project:

BLI SW7 Lurches Through Low Speed Steps

Hello, everyone!

I have a new BLI SW7 with a Paragon 2 decoder.  I've noticed that the engine has poor low speed performance.  I've tried tweaking the CVs using Decoder Pro.  Now it starts fine at speed step 1 but literally jumps to each additional speed step until it reaches about step 5.  This lurching doesn't go away when playing with momentum or BLI's speed smoothing.
