HO Domtar 1001 Custom Paint
As promised, my Domtar 1001 photos. I finished this unit in late July as custom work for a buddy that is now modeling CN in central Wisconsin. This engine will be used to operate the Domtar paper plant at Nekoosa.
Used a BLI NW2, which represents a late production EMD NW2. Seen in some of the exposures is my BN 14, an NW2 that BN rebuilt and called it an NW-12. Note the difference in the taper of the hood down to the front windows of the cab. The BN unit represents an early build NW2.
Midland & Dorchester — N Scale Shelf Layout — July 2020 Update
Hey all, here's the July update for my little shelf layout. I received a new addition for my arsenal of modeling, fixed a decoder issue in a locomotive, worked on some decals and a few other things!
Thanks for taking a look!

Atlas Gold GP-7 ATSF 2761 conversion to T&P 1110
Some pictures of my(finally!) completed GP-7.
Started life as an Atlas Gold ATSF #2761 with ESU decoder and sound. I took her down to parade rest and rebuilt her as Texas and Pacific #1110.
I did numerous modifications along the way, some of them;
T&P RS2 #1100, custom decals needed?
Edit- changed title hoping for better exposure
I've been thinking that I want to add this lone wolf to my roster. T&P only rostered the one unit, after brief service in the Lancaster yard she was repainted swamp Holly orange and black and sent to work the passenger terminal in Texarkana. In my world she will instead be sent west to work smaller yards during the last of the transition from 0-8-0 switchers to SW's and GP's.
Runaway Locomotive running DCC
Hi, I am running JRMI and using Engine Driver as my throttle on my android cell phone. Every once in a while I have a Locomotive that goes rough on me. I have tried to release the locomotive and then try to put it back into engine driver and then a question pops up asking me if I want to steal this locomotive and I answer yes but the same question keeps popping up. I have to remove the locomotive from the layout and pull out another one to continue with my operations. Does anyone have any idea why I cannot steal this locomotive? Thank you.
A question about sound equipped engines?
I would like to purchase an N gauge Atlas locomotive with sound. We have a small DC layout with a very old MRC power pack. Would there be enough volt-amperes to run the locomotive? I do know that you cant access some of the functions on the engine by only using DC. Also would there be any other problems with running the sound equipped engine with DC that I am not aware of? Any help would be appreciated!
ScaleTrains SD40-2 Detail Kit - a little help, please
A couple of months ago, I purchased a ScaleTrains.com Operator SD40-2 model in Santa Fe. Nice model, aside from the ESU Sound Essentials decoder - it was immediately replaced with a Tsunami2.
I decided to sand off the class lights and rear numberboards, using Tamiya Putty to fill in the holes. So far so good.
I couldn't match the paint. And with COVID-19 I wasn't going to make another trip out to buy more. I did manage to foul up the factory paint pretty well before I decided to just dunk the shell in 91% IPA.
What sorts of motive power would short-line (class 3) railroads be buying from the mid 40's to mid 50's and from where?
I am thinking of modeling a Class 3 railroad during the mid 40's-mid 50's, and I was wondering where they would get their motive power. The railroad is set in Colorado (with a potential partner-railroad extending the network down to Arizona via trackage rights) and I was wondering where it would get it's equipment. I know that later Class 3 railroads got their locomotives almost exclusively second-hand, but I want to model steam AND first generation diesel on this short-line railroad, and since the earliest first generation diesels (excluding early yard switchers of
