What's New at the Railroad Hobby Show
Sat, 2019-01-26 08:48 — jeffshultz
Okay, this is going to be cell phone photos at first, and DSLR shots later tonight.
Update: someone asked that I explain where the Railroad Hobby Show is. Indeed, up until a few years ago, I had no idea what people were talking about when they mentioned "the Springfield show."
The Railroad Hobby Show is put on by the Amherst Railway Society at the Eastern States Exposition Center (Big E) in West Springfield, Massachusetts in late January or early February. Thus it is known as "The Railroad Hobby Show," "The Big E show," "The Amherst Show," or "The Springfield Show."

Getting back on topic, . . .
Was Broadway Ltd or Bachmann at the show with steam locomotives? Any pics?
Jim
Broadway/Bachmann
Both had booth space, Bachmann a fairly sizable space near the door of the BLC and Broadway a regular sized booth. Sorry I don't remember any news from either about steam but maybe someone else spent time talking to them. Unfortunately I'm not a steam modeler so no pics. BLC had their new AC6000.

I like the look of rapido's
I like the look of rapido's RS11. Last time I checked the diesels and steam locomotives all had their differences, but hey I model the transition era so I run both. Seems like lots of nice models that do not fit my era.
Jeff your comment about Lionel and HO scale brought back memories. My first trains that my parents got for me had several HO scale Lionel items. This was during the late 50s to 1961. I had a Pacific that made smoke and had a working head light. A Milk car that had a series of metal milk cans it would unload via remote control, it loaded into a cylinder accessed via a hatch in the roof. A log car that dumped, a Coal car which was based on a side dump prototype. It also had a lighted Santa fe Caboose. There were several other cars that made up the train and I had an F-7 in The B&O scheme that looked like the ones that ran just down the hill from my house.
I have never changed eras or scale from the equipment that got me started in the hobby. Although I no longer have those items, they were stolen by my brother. You can pick your friends but not your relatives.
Everything I do in the hobby brings back fond memories of the trains I started out with and the things my parents did to give me my first layout. My parents are gone now but I fondly remember them every time I am involved in the hobby with anything.

Bachmann
One of the things about going to Trainfest and Amherst is that not a lot of products get introduced between the two shows. Bachmann is a bit of evidence of that.
The only items they had a "New" sign behind were some 1860s cars - a flat car and what is described as a "water car:"

City Classics
City Classics has done a run of their Company House in turquoise, representative of a company house that has been sold to a private owner, who repainted it:
As an aside, I bought one of these kits, and also got one of the new "Window Treatments" (#718 "Small Dark Colored Curtins for Windows 1/4" wide up to 13/16" tall - not yet on the website) that I will use with it - look for a First Look on that soon.
Also now available is a limited edition Accurail 40-foot boxcar celebrating City Classic's 30 years in business:

Digitrax
Digitrax had their new DCS 52 Zephyr Express on display, and I know Les Halmos bought one from somewhere...
WIth a backlit 3D keypad, it also has a feature that simplifies CV29 programming, and also has an integrated USB interface:

ExactRail
As has been mentioned elsewhere, ExactRail is coming out with five paint schemes for the Berwick 7440cuft boxcar -
For some reason I didn't shoot the Rock Island or Conrail can-opener cars separately, but here are the rest:
Note: the below car is orange (see it behind the Penn Central above). It just won't photograph orange, which the ExactRail guys predicted. I assume they had their own problems with product photography:

For Prof Klyzer
I know you love your Foamcore board, but you might be interested in the Gatorfoam that a gentleman was advertising in various sizes. It's a foam core faced with 1/32' resin impregnated veneer. This module was built of it:
What he had the Gatorfoam doing at the bottom under the "Can your Fome-Cor do this?" sign was soaking in a cup of water. Interesting stuff, but at $96 for a 3/16"4'x8' sheet (he'll cut smaller) it is kind of spendy. http://gatorfoam.net if anyone is interested.
