What's New at the Railroad Hobby Show

jeffshultz's picture

Okay, this is going to be cell phone photos at first, and DSLR shots later tonight.

Update: someone asked that I explain where the Railroad Hobby Show is. Indeed, up until a few years ago, I had no idea what people were talking about when they mentioned "the Springfield show."

The Railroad Hobby Show is put on by the Amherst Railway Society at the Eastern States Exposition Center (Big E) in West Springfield, Massachusetts in late January or early February. Thus it is known as "The Railroad Hobby Show," "The Big E show," "The Amherst Show," or "The Springfield Show."

Layouts

I'll have a separate thread if I take any photos of them. Hopefully later tomorrow.

As is, I know of a few more stops I need to make to check out new products, and I've still got most of today to edit and upload. And uploading on the Hotel wifi is slow.

Atlas

Atlas had their N scale F150s on display -

Atlas was aso displaying test shots of cars that they purchased the tooling from Walthers for:

The N scale SD60E's have been out for awhile, but doesn't this paint job look snazzy?

The N scale ALP-45DP was being kept busy running around the Atlas display layout -

Motrak Models

Motrak is getting into the laser-cut non-structure business, as demonstrated by these handy cases for storing your stripwood and styrene in a compact but easy to see way -

Here is one of Motrak's newer kits, the HO scale Applewood General Store -

The camper is laser cut wood - I'd be interested in seeing the prototype, and finding out if it was created by a man with the last name "Clampett."

This is an O scale little train station -

Eastern Scale Models appears to specialize in N scale, and has recently released trucks and wheelsets for that scale -

They are prepping to release an X72 class boxcar and an assortment of 3D printed (or at least mastered) structures, payloads, and detail parts -

Lionel

This is going to be the last post - it is after midnight here and I still have to get up in the morning for day 2.

Lionel is getting back into HO in a big way. They will largely start with the Model Power products they purchased - rolling stock, structures, and flextrack, but they intend to move up out of the "train set" level of products quickly. Since it is Lionel, it probably comes as no surprise that their first product in HO scale is The Polar Express. The locomotive can go from track (DC and DCC) to wireless (Bluetooth) control by the flip of a button on the bottom of the tender. The track is the new MagneLock track, which is connected magnetically, with plastic studs aligning the track and ballast and power passing through metal studs on the connecting faces. The nickel-silver track is also equipped with soldering pads underneath if the owner wishes to run jumpers from an under-track power or control buss:

American Flyer and S scale fans should be interested in these upcoming releases from Lionel/American Flyer:

Three new O scale locomotives are coming from Lionel soon. The first is a Southern Pacific 4-4-2 Atlantic:

The second is an Illinois Central 4-4-2 Atlantic:

The third is an Alco RS-11:

Lionel will be worth keeping an eye on in several scales in the future.

Talk about of price outside

Talk about of price outside of reality.  Over $20 for the roomettes,  are you kidding me.  Anyone with a quilty printer and a little knowledge of a photo editing software can make those.

More than a picture

The Roomette kits also include SMLEDs that are compatible with Woodland Scenics lighting system.  It's truly "fold and glue, plug and play."  It wouldn't be much less expensive to buy the WS lighting separately.  I bought two of the kits myself.

Thanks for the coverage

Thanks for your work from one who could not get there this year.
