Agribusiness - Industry on the 8th Sub

Since I'm about to start scenery around the town of Milton, I decided to finish a few structures to make sure they'll fit in as intended.  These won't be 100% done until they have a completed scene around them, but in their present state should give an idea of how the place will look.

Home Made Signal System

I promised in my previous post (here) that I would give more information about the signaling system that I am building. I will do my best to explain the systems without sounding too technical.

Weathering a Katy boxcar

Okay, it's nothing special, but this is what I'm working on this morning.  I bought one of the new MKT outside braced box cars from Athearn/Roundhouse yesterday, and I really like the Sloan Yellow paint scheme.  I found out it's not quite prototypical for my era (I model ca. 1940, Sloan paint came in in '47 or so), but I like the way it stands out against my brown rolling stock.

The trouble is, the car is not yellow, it's YELLOW!!

"Shoo-fly" Free-moN Module (2'x6')

Ever since reading John Armstrong's Track Planning for Realistic Operations I've been intrigued by his drawing of a "shoofly" (page 123, 3rd ed.). It's a simple scene of track diverted over a fill while a crew repaired / rebuilt a bridge over a small stream, yet contained the possibility of multiple "stories" within the scene (not only the work on the rails, but the land just outside of railroad property: orchards, farms, roads, forests, etc.)

So I designed a 2'x6' "Shoofly" module:

Going the extra mile... A tale of Excellent Customer Service from Bar Mills...

Just wanted to share an experience I recently had with Bar Mills in what can only be described as another example of excellent customer service from the sponsors of MRH.

A while back I had bought Pinkham’s Pallet from Bar Mills, and it has been sitting on a shelf waiting for the time to build it. I recently opened the kit and started the build, and was nearing the end when I noticed that somehow I had lost a couple of doors and a window.

RailDriver/JMRI/Bachmann On30 Climax = Awesome Fun

At Trainfestival 2009 I had purchased  a  RailDriver® Desktop Train Cab Controller in hopes of one day integrating it with my DCC controller and JMRI software. I have reached the point where it is in testing. I have posted a video on my Youtube channel. Click the link if you wish. Please leave a comment here or on the Youtube Video page with your thoughts. Thanks,

New Weed Car

My uncle, the owner of Grizzly Creek & Grumpy Flats Railroad, decided he needed a car to keep control of the weeds along his rails. He found an old Union Pacific flat car, an old scrap tank and told me to make him a "weed car". Horace, the black cat is even part of the crew.

RMS - ...And So It Begins...

I bought a future railroad, with a house on top!

Finally, after several issues with the lending company, I now own a house. Better yet, it comes with an unfinished basement! The future home of the Rocky Mountain Southern & Great Plains is secure. I am moving in even as I type this post.

Pieces parts from the heart

This past Friday I hosted our operation group (NCIOG) at my home and shared the news about moving to Florida.  All of the guys were sad to hear the news as we've grown close over the last couple of years.  I told the guys that once I had a chance to look over everything that I would see what I could offer them for their railroads.  Keith W.
