ICRR Poydras Street Yard - Progress Report

Ok, Sunday and I'm about 30% done with the design of the layout. By mid week if all goes well, I should have some plans to post here. I am designing this first prototype for n scale, and as soon as I get it worked out, will do another for ho scale. After this design frenzy of mine, and I have the 2 plans in front of me and into the computer, ill make my decision on which t9o build.

scrach buil buildings

just a few pics for ya'll to comment on. I've built these from light wood and cardboard that I seem to have an enless supply of. Hope you like what you see. the gas station is a mock-up of one I used to work at, the autozone is one I freekly visit and the motel is one that my wife and her cousins stayed at in piegon forge tn.

Scratch built structures on the K&EFR

I started building the Kanunda and Emu Flat Railway in 2000 as an operating HO scale model railway layout.             I find that operating with appropriate scenery and structures in place is more satisfying that operating on a "plywood pacific". So until recently I have been using temporary structures that I have bought at swap meets or built from kits with little concern to prototype. There are no kits for South Australian line side structures that I know of so I will have to scratch build most of them.

LARGEST COLLECTION OF TRACK PLANS ANYWHERE

Family got table computer for Christmas. It has Google maps app on it. At night while watching TV during commerical I search every rr track in us and every yard etc. The satlitte views are great. You can do track plan just like the real thing. MRH in last issue shows you how to use it great video.

Bye Bye to the Northern California Consolidated

Well, this is the beginning of the blog to track my progress of an N-scale endeavor.

Three road names of Western Pacific, Southern Pacific and Santa Fe.

As you can see the pics show the layout as a round the room...the duck under was low enough that my dear wife whacked her head three times in a row in less than a 5 minute time span, no joke.  So I, yes I, decided to move it, because it was built to move, to the garage for a while.

May Issue

Have I missed something.

looking for the May issue of MRH mag. I know all of you have busy with the upcoming shows and Mag being less staff member ( The Great Charlie). Keep plugging along with great work. hope to see the mag soon.

Track plan of the Kanunda & Emu Flat Rwy

The HO scale Kanunda & Emu Flat Railway is 7.6 m (25') X 3m (10') with minimum radius curves of 600mm (24").    The K&EFR is a freelanced portion of single track mainline in South Australia somewhere between Adelaide and the border with Victoria.

Georgetown & Allen Mountain Railroad: Barnesville

I have started to install roadbed on the Barnesville peninsula. Barnesville is the east end of the railroad. The town is named after my good friend Walter Barnes.

I'm embedding magnetic reed sensors in the roadbed in case I ever want to run some kind of automatic operation.

latest update

Ok, started working from hand sketches this morning and with the room i have available and what i want to acheive, i think im gonna go n scale with this thing. At least for this first preliminary design. Although i have a lot of resevrations with n scale, using it solves a lot of issues i am running into.
