The Hudson and Hartford
At long last I sit down and write the story of my layout, the N-Scale Hudson and Hartford. It has been a long time in coming and there are still many things that need be worked out, created, designed and tested.
Happy Anniversary
If I can engage in some self-aggrandizing for a brief moment, it's a happy day in the McNab basement. One year ago construction began on my Iowa Interstate Grimes Industrial Track layout. What a difference 365 days can make...

"Fictional" names equal real places!
Those of you who have read some of my post know that I'm a dyed in the wool freelancer. You also know that I don't really "get" the fascination that some guys have with modeling particular prototypes down to an exact blade of grass. When guys start off a description of their layout with something akin to " I'm modeling the second subdivision of the fourth division of the ninth galaxy of XYZ railroad on Oct.15th 1955 at 12:01 PM when the temperature was 58 degrees and the relative humidity was"...blah blah blah.... it sort of irritates me.

I don't have a track plan, which I know would be helpful for all of you to vis
A Small Switching Layout - Redux
Thanks to everyone who commented on my last set of track plans, I think I have managed to get closer to what I want to build. The main difference from my previous track planning efforts is that I went back to the prototype to see what I could learn from it.
FREMO regional meeting at Hanau 2012
Last weekend I attended the FREMO regional meeting at Hanau near Frankfurt.
Progress on the Pulp Mill and the Railroad . . .
I'm still grinding ahead on the pulp and paper mill, and of course, the railroad equipment to sustain it. In contrast to recent reports that the Olympic Peninsula's Seattle and North Coast Railroad has ceased operation, it can, in fact, still be found hanging on by a minor corporate thread in service to the wood products industry in the nation's far Northwest. A quick snapshot at the Crown Z mill would seem to indicate that both the railroad and mill are stuck in the early 80s (there are even nearby billboards advertising some of the hottest current TV shows - Mia

Hope to see a few people there, I'll hopefully be able to give everyone a tour of the JL&T.
