In today’s video, we are going to take a look at an edited version of our Live Stream Interview with Michelle Kempema, the Executive Director of the Colorado Model Railroad Museum. At the very end of the video, I will announce the amount of the contribution that we were able to make to the youth program at the museum.

3D Printed Kankakee River Bridge completely assembled, painted, and weathered

Earlier this month I received a couple of photos from my friend Brian of the Kankakee River Bridge that I had designed and printed for him.  I gave him a pile of parts (2nd batch shown, parts for three spines delivered earlier):

And then I said, using my best Hedley Lamarr voice:  "Now go do your vodoo, that you do, so very, very well!

Here is what came out. sitting in its final resting place on Brian's layout:

San Francisco Hamm's Brewery - 3

Ever since starting in model railroading, I have like large industry on a layout. Of course, my meaning may be a bit different than you may think. I like my structures to be proportional to the railroad models. What I mean by this is they have to have the look and feel of the real thing. Those of you that have read my blog have undoubtedly seen my model of an ADM facility. This structure dwarfs the rolling stock on the layout, just as it does in real life.

On30 Gondola repaint Bachmann 18' low-side

Hi everyone,

Having decided to run ON30 projects on the side of the HO scale ones, i started work on a Bachmann low-side On30 18' gondola.

I painted all the wooden parts using Vallejo acrylics using various shades to represent weathered wood planks.

Subsequently, i used oil/enamel washes and after this, drybrushing with acrylics again.

I originally planned on painting the exterior of the car and then have paint peeling effects but, as I see it now, I ll opt for an unpainted look (Old-West in 1870s theme).

Muskoka Central II Breaking Ground

Work on the new layout has begun.  Phase 1 is an area 12' x 13' and will contain a yard, engine facility and a few industries.  This room doubles as my home office and will be the workshop with my modeling desk and Airbrush booth.

The continuing saga of the "Dog food box building"

I've had this idea awhile. So long in fact that said box actually changed packaging size and that change is now figuring into the overall layout of the building. I'm always looking at things from three viewpoints. Intended use, modeling use, ham radio use. That last one is especially troublesome anytime I'm in a hardware or "big box" building supply store. At any rate, I kept looking at these dog food cartons everytime I would open them and think, "that's about the right size for an  HO building". So the seed was sown.

Best Builders

Hey everyone,

Does any one know which Korean (but not limited to) manufactures are the best and what their contact info is. I wanted to start a couple of locomotive projects, other countries are fine also.  Not having much luck looking. Looking for the finest detail and durability.

Thanks for you help

Karl

Incredible Budd Cab Car visits the BI&W Railroad

The carbody is a new 3d print by Tom Brandt. John used the Walthers interior, undercarriage and wheels in addition to recycled parts from his earlier Resin Bilevel car project. This one simply nails the look of an in-service car on an average day.

The 3d shell is the best model of this car available now, made even better by John's technical skill and artistry.
