Yannis

Hi everyone,

Having decided to run ON30 projects on the side of the HO scale ones, i started work on a Bachmann low-side On30 18' gondola.

I painted all the wooden parts using Vallejo acrylics using various shades to represent weathered wood planks.

Subsequently, i used oil/enamel washes and after this, drybrushing with acrylics again.

I originally planned on painting the exterior of the car and then have paint peeling effects but, as I see it now, I ll opt for an unpainted look (Old-West in 1870s theme).

This is work in progress and i need to work on the underside of the car/trucks/details as well as add "decals".

Thanks for stopping by!

Wow!

Yannis, that is a plastic car?  I guess it is, since it is a Bachmann car.  You certainly did an excellent job of capturing the look of weathered wood!  Well done!

Al many thanks for the kind words!

Yes it is a plastic car indeed (original color red oxide). It is my first "wooden" car, and since my HO era is the late 60's I thoroughly enjoyed the different flavor that this era/scale gave me.

It is so realistic that I can

It is so realistic that I can almost feel my hand getting splinters in it from running my hands along it.

Lee, Rick and Dee many many

Lee, Rick and Dee many many thanks for the kind words!

Lee: Thank you for the compliment! On the next car i ll plan for a more step by step approach for this (now i have just three phases so far) to show you what I am doing. I ll also experiment with plain styrene, in order to add texture for replicating wood surfaces.

Thanks Dee!

Lockdown must lift first in order to get access to material for the benchwork.

In the meantime when the gondola is finished i ll take a photo at a rural part of the HO layout.
