Starting Over - A layout experiment
I've chosen to completely demolish (nicely) my current layout for many reasons. First, it took most of the basement when my boys were infants. Now that they are no longer "afraid" of the basement, they venture down there to play hockey/soccer when some winter days are too cold in the small amount of space available, it was time to increase that. Secondly, I discovered that there was just too much layout for the time that I could dedicate to it as well as inconvenient places around a few high usage doors and hallways.
FINALLY I ENDED MY BACK DROP!!!!
Hi everyone!!!
Finally I ended my back drop inspired on "Esperanza - Puebla", from this spot you can see this two volcanos: Pico de Orizaba and Malintzin. Yes of course is not a replica 1 to 1, and has a pinch of cartoon but i considered this is enought for my pourpouses. I have relied on Joe Fugate's videos. As you can see my idea is to do a woodland scenery, without thereby losing attention on trains. Please feel free to comment, always your ideas help me.
1900 models - and still something older!
One of my older projects was to build this 52' B&O boxcar where the prototype was built in 1867! Nearly 150 years ago!
I was fascinated to build this model where the body looks like a hopper with sloped ends - however where the car was used as a boxcar for transport of flour barrels!
IAIS's West End - Completed Jordan Spreader
I've been wanting to model Iowa Interstate's Jordan Spreader #9500 (ex-RI 95319) for years, but it's a significant kitbash using the Walthers spreader kit as a starting point. Recently, though, I was able to get a good deal on a disassembled, partially-stripped OMI UP Jordan Spreader that, with a few minor changes, would be a perfect match for the 9500. This thread will chronicle all aspects of the model's return to service.
Scenic Shots from Thunder Mesa
Since I seem to post a new photo like this every so often, I've decided to keep them all in one easy to find thread from now on.
Today we have a view of the canyon as the daily mixed rounds the bend. www.thundermesaminingco.blogspot.com
520 class project
A few months ago, I was given a set of Rocky River Models' superb resin castings for the South Australian Railways 520 class 4-8-4. These were planned to be a kit, however after our local etching firm shut-up shop, the chassis part of the kit disappeared, and as such the project was dumped.
Rolling Mill
WORKBENCH WEDNESDAY - - Finishing up the rolling mill interior for our club steel mill. A few more pieces to assemble; some fine tuning; and some final "touch up" painting and we'll be ready for the club Open House Tour this Saturday from noon till 5 pm in Mechanicsburg, PA. Come join us!
Electrical problem.
I've begun restoration on a 16'x16' layout I built some years back when my children were little. Now that they have children, the layout (having sat dormant for several years) takes on new meaning for play/build time with grandchildren. I never finished the scenic work, so it's perfect for little hands to plaster and paint. I'm running a Hogger and I've got lots of control blocks and remote switches, but something strange happens when I"m at the end of the stretched out cord....
