A Place....
Here are two diagrams of the two halves of the layout. I believe I've reached the end of track in terms of major changes within the current foot print. There are three railroads which can be represented in a reasonable fashion. Conn River line (CP/B&M), Central Vermont over
Seven years in... (The late 7th anniversary of the Black N' Blue)
It occurs to me that because of my recent hiatus working on the layout that I totally blew right by it's seventh anniversary in August. I also turned 58 in October.
Aerial Trams, Bingham had four.
Has anyone modeled an aerial tram? I would love to see a picture.
Cleanintrack
I have been reading about cleaning track with rubbing alcohol and a lint free cloth. Does this impact ballast fixed with Scenic Cement from Woodland Scenics?
How often is it recommended to clean track with the alcohol?
Facia mounted turnout throw
Have been working on facia mounted manual turnout controls. Most are to small or too fragile. So found these Bachmann G scale turn out throws and it was of the the races. I cut off part of the mounting lug that connected to the Bachmann switch. Extended the throw linkage. Made a nice 4 by 4 inch shelf to mount it on. I used a Blue Point throw to work the points. Worked great and rugged.
Preserving expensive resin and mold making materials
After throwing out the 3rd set of mold making materials I vowed to find a way to increase the shelf life after opening.
Internet research indicated that it was the exposure to air that shortens the shelf life of the materials regardless of how tight you fasten the lids. I decided to try a different approach: remove the air.
Modeling the missabe in the late 50s and mid 60s

A Staging Leg To Stand On
The first edition of the 22nd Avenue Running Track's single-track staging leg, built a decade ago, is about what you would expect for a first draft by a high school student. It generally did the job, but it was too short, unstable, and crudely finished. As part of the overall benchwork rehabilitation, I figured it prudent to completely replace it with one of higher-quality materials and craftsmanship. So into the scrap pile went the old one.
Workbench Weekend
It's a "workbench" in function only, yeah. But over one weekend earlier this winter, I was able to set up a permanent, organized workspace that was not a) my computer desk or b) the floor, since one of these options was detrimental to my actual job-related productivity, and the other was detrimental to my increasingly-decrepit body (being a hockey goalie does not make you feel younger, believe me).
