Sizes of things

On my thread, you asked about sizes, so here are three yards for your consideration.  I am blessed to have the full basement at my disposal (except for the furnace and water heater - dang them!) so 1600+ square feet of space.

Please don't think you have to have all of the space I am showing here to make things work.  Mines can be downsized, and the crushing plant, though huge, could be just the front of it.  I can easily see just modeling half of the Hull-Rust Concentrator (depth-wise) and shorten the trestle, remove some of the tracks on the left side of the picture...  do-able.

But you asked...

The first is the Hull-Rust Concentrator and yard.  The trestle deck is 12" high on the model, and the overall "module" size is 24" wide by 16 feet long.

The next is Mitchell Yard outside of Hibbing.  It too is 16 feet long, but only 18 inches wide

Lastly, one of the mines and associated yard, 24" wide by 12 feet long

Things getting wrecked / renovation /moving

I just saw your last post as I was putting mine together.  I have built some key items of the layout as 8-foot sections that can be removed and moved if needed.  You may want to take that into consideration when building.

My ore dock (2 sections), Burnett Bridge(1 section) and Hull-Rust (2 sections) sections can be taken out with an eye to keeping and moving them if the day ever comes.

On the other hand....  so much of my layout is a product of the space available, it would be illogical to think I could shoehorn much of what I have now into a new space.  (Hint on RR rooms: they're never the same size twice)

All of the basement Milt?

What about that room that hosts a lot of pink birds from Florida? J/K, it’s nice to see us all help out Alex. I’m looking forward to the next rendition of his Missabe and how to adapt the space to make it work for him,

Milt

Thank you for the information Milt. Could you maybe design my layout? I can give you the space I have and I would have to put in 2 lift out sections as that’s where the door is for a closet and washer/dryer room. It would have to be enough room so my mom dose not feel crammed. I can give you all the measurements you need and all you will have to do is just put the towns like Hibbing, vergina and Procter ect. I’d like to make something like your layout but much much smaller I’d like to make them lift out sections every 8-10 feet of track/layout and build the bench work accordingly. I love the looks of your layout and I’d love to see it sometime and get some wonderful ideas. If you could make me a plan I’d love that. Also I’d like to have double decker like yours.

My way of doing things.

Because I model the iron range I model some dead/barley alive trees. Because all missabe stuff is expensive I have to try to save money on trees. So I went hunting in my backyard and found some nice looking weeds. I decided to pick them for a project, now I have time to do it I picked up some cheap hair spray and used that to glue the foliage to the tree. So my first step is picking the branches off the weed and now that I have a good size branch I spray the bare weed and then dip it in either light green or yellow and sprinkle the foliage over the tree trying not to get it on the main stem. Now that I have my first layer done. I spray it again and do the same process over and over I tell I am satisfied. Then lastly I try to get the foliage that is glued to the stem and brush it off.

Now you have a wonderful cheap tree.
