RgsRR.info - it's back!!

For anyone who's enjoyed the thousands of photo links, extensive RGS history and details, and links to related topics on my website - it's now back.

The old address of 'rgsrr.info' is working again, and a second URL actually works as well - http://www.rgsrr.com

Either will get you to the site.

If any of you were using, or have links on your sites to the old 'base' address of 'rgsrr.home.comcast.net' - please update it to 'rgsrr.info'.  Thanks!!!

Layout Update - 3 Nov 2015: Running Trains & Final Planning

This is the layout update for early November 2015. The wiring for the Paradigm to Union Station yard limit section (soldering feeders, connections to terminal strips, and connections to the main bus) has been completed. A DCC test of this section of power district 2 has also been successfully completed.  All of the tracks, including sidings, in the new section have been fully tested with DCC without any issues.

This picture shows the area where the DCC wiring has been completed.

New sound decoder?? Nope. New engine.

Well do I spend over 100 bucks to buy a sound decoder, speaker, baffle etc and then spend hours trying to fit it all into a Bachmann GP30, or go for one already done? Easy answer. A brand new Bachmann S4, Milwaukee Road, complete with sound. Is it Broadway Limited, or Atlas or P2K? No but thats okay. For my small industrial switching layout, an S4 is the perfect thing to work in and out of those tight spaces. Looking forward to hearing it, seeing it and running it.

Need some help please

I have started laying track on my new layout and encountered a problem I hope you can help me with. The bench work is open frame, L girder, topped in some sections with 2x4 modules built of 1x2 frames topped with luan and one inch blue foam board, and others are stair tread boards topped with the foam board.  The layout itself is "U" shaped, and accessible from all sides.

I need to add backdrop. I thought I could use poster board (the backdrop needs to be double-sided and thin) but even after painting it with solvent-based primer, the board warps.

Track plan musing

Instead of following my own advice and figuring out and figuring out what kind of traffic the St-Jean sawmill complex would generate (In: logs, empty woodchip gondolas/ box cars, equipment on flat car Out: full woodchip, pulpwood, box car + empties), I gave each location a name and draw something to give me an idea how things would look like if the line to St-Jean mill and Belle Station only connected via LeChat yard.
