A milestone on the K&T Rly - 100th Op Session
The Kayton Shortline was a $500 Railroad published in MRH #54. Even before it was published the layout had been expanded to the Kayton and Tecoma Rly, a point to point two person switching layout. The layout has a total length of 15' end to end and a 'mainline' of three inches between yard limits! Most operating sessions have two operators using a two position car card system. An operating session takes between 90 and 120 minutes to complete..

Times Flies when you're . . . .
Living, raising kids, and going through job transitions. And yet I managed to do a little work - just forgot to document it here. I have too many blogs . . . . but here's the stuff you missed.
Moving on, I have new ROW - mostly to accommodate the above ground needs of the family. It has meant redoing the basement and refiguring out how to make a minimal wood shop and a model railroad work in the same space.

Everybody's Working Through the Weekend
Sorry for the title, but sometimes I can't help but love a bad pun. Anyway, PROGRESS!
I made a lot of great progress on my layout over the weekend. As I mentioned before, I wanted to get all of the exposed pink and floral foam covered in an initial base coat of scenery and I was able to get that accomplished!

Weekend Photo Fun
Here is a set of images from the weekend shot on some of my small dioramas, Later (on another thread) I will go into what was used. To make the roads in each.

Build a simple audio mixer
There have been several discussions here about enhancing locomotive sound by connecting a duplicate decoder to either headphones or a sound system in the layout room. rtw3rd, aka Rick, mentioned he wanted to connect several decoders to a switch so he would have a choice of locos. I of course shot off my mouth, suggesting he use a mixer instead, so he could run more than one loco at once.

NKP GP-9 Detailing
I started to detail a Front Range GP-9 for the Nickel Plate. I picked up a Front Range shell on ebay last year, and earlier this year I got a great deal on a Proto 2000 drive. It's not an exact fit, but a little trimming here and there, and I got the shell on. I had to file a bit on the underside of the non-dynamic hatch to clear the DCC recepticle. The shell had a slight crack on the left side, but I filled it in and sanded it down.

What They Don't Tell You About Modeling the 1970s
The 1970s was an interesting time in railroading. One of the "big" pitfalls is applying 600 ACI tags to my car and caboose fleet and 300 or so wheel inspection dots!

Richlawn RR - Progress video - from Start to March 2016
It occurred to me that it's not easy to understand a layout from the multiple postings on the forum. That's not the fault of the forum, but just the "nature of the beast". After watching other modeler's progress videos I thought that I'd produce one for my Richlawn Railroad. The video is 12 minutes long and covers from the very beginning to March of this year. I hope that you enjoy it!
