My personal Blog

Hallo,

I´d like to share my view of this great spare time activity with my friends. For this, I have done a Blog - but only in German. Maybe it can be translated via Google for the readers not so familiar with my native language. Anyway you may find some interesting stuff and links.

My Modellcom-Blog: http://modellcom.blogspot.com/

Sincerely

Progress video on Richlawn Railroad as of 9-28-11

It's been some time since I did a video update of the layout so I created a little video that is about 7 minutes long.  I tried my hand this time at adding real proto sound.  Check it out below:

Brick building

Take a look at this 1905 picture:

Of special interest are the very uneven road and the pattern on the brickwork. Note that is not just painted, but "picked".

There's a prototype for everything

I had the opportunity to take a very fun and interesting mountain bike ride this past weekend on the old Iron Horse State Park Trail here in Washington state. It's the old Milwuakee Road right-of-way over the Cascades at Snoqualmie Pass. Included in this portion of the trail is the 2.3 mile long Snoqualmie Tunnel built between 1912 and 1914. It's a eerie feeling riding through. Pitch black and very cool, even on this 77 degree day.

Ready for Prime Time - Backdrops on the 8th Sub

There's been a lot going on UNDER the layout lately with wiring and such, but there's finally something happening above ground again.  The free-standing backdrop that winds along the layout's main serpentine peninsula started to receive sheathing as of the last blog entry http://model-railroad-hobbyist.com/node/5636.  Installation of the remainder was finished last week, so it was time to prepare everything for paint.

HO Scale Live Steam?

Well, I should say OO scale live steam. My friend in the area Norman showed me his Hornby live steam OO scale A4 locomotive yesterday, sadly I only had my old iPhone with me.

Caught! CSX Derailment on Bing Bird's Eye...

So I was doing a little virtual railfanning scoping out details for my new layout when I came across this:

This is an image using Bing's "Bird's Eye" functionality fully zoomed in.  If you go to the coordinates
39.897619,-75.151172 you can take a look.  This is in CSX's south Philadelphia yard about 1/2 mile south east of Lincoln Financial Field.

Rolling Stock Addition(s)

Taking a break on module construction, and now armed with a spray booth, I'm spending a little time working on some rolling stock additions that I've wanted.

NO, Mr. Gorbachev

Not that one. I just built it. It is my peninsula support/backdrop wall.
