Atlas switch motors

Who has long-term experience with heavily-used Atlas switches/ switch machines?

One of our club guys would like to install a pair at the entrance to a staging area. His position: It's easy to diode-matrix the routes, and they are easy to replace if they fail.

All of my experience with Atlas twin-coils dates back 30 years and involves things like stuck push buttons.

Atlas Turnouts, Custom Line VS Super track

Can anyone clarify the difference between  Atlas Custom Line  versus  Atlas Super Track turnouts. The #6 505/506 vs the 563/564. Any reason there is only a #6 505/506. I have searched but find nothing on this subject.

Thanks

Wayne

La Grange gets some track & Tortilla Flats gets surveyed

GS&M crews march on...

After the 1st set of track goes into place a Trio of C-630 pulls a tank train from staging up and out of the main Helix.

You can see how the main works it way out of the Helix and into La Grange.  The Alcos are on what will become the A/D tracks for La Grange.

La Grange & The Helix on the GS&M

Using a section of oak to test bend the plywood that will lead out of the main Helix and into La Grange.  You can see Gila Grains from this angle.

Photo of the Helix exit.  You can see I have not fully finished the front face of the bench work yet at the end of the 1x6.  Gila Springs in on the back wall to the right.

When Animals ATTACK.....

I had to store my Time Saver layout in the garage over the winter and this is what happened. Some animal got in and stayed a few weeks and he was eating the scenery. I think it was a squirrel....These photos are after I cleaned up the mess, but he/it even chewed up one of the vehicles. So.... BEWARE when Animals ATTACK.

Reboxx Exxact Socket issue

Recently I discovered my truck tuner tool had grown legs and vanished. It was a geernic one I picked up at a train show, I don;t think it was the actual Reboxx one, but since the whole thing has gone missing (I always kept it in the zip baggie it came in) I don't have proof one way or the other.

I have Joe F's "short from hell" ... Help!

You would think I could find an electrical problem on a 2' x 8' DCC layout. I am posting more info below.

Off Layout Rolling Stock Storage

I'm looking for ideas for off layout storage of rolling stock. I have a 2'x8' shelf layout and can reasonably handle 10 40 ft cars an one loco. Like most model rails I have "somewhat" more than 10 cars and one loco.

I want to have the rolling stock available to be moved on to the layout when called for.  I am using the car card system built into the Easy Model Railroad Inventory software to generate car movements. The use of cars from off layout storage adds to the variety both visual and operationally.

Woodland Scenics Tidy Track

As I was down in the basement doing some routine maintenance and track cleaning, I kept thinking about the new Woodland Scenics Tidy Track system.  I know that the Tidy Track system was just released, but I was wondering  what everyones thoughts were about it?  It seems reasonably priced and seems that it might be worth looking into!
