DCC - Electrical

Newbie DCC question

I am a newbie to DCC. When I place some of my Bachmann DCC engines of the programming track, the engine immediately starts to make sound and will not accept programming command. Other of my Bachmann engines do not make a sound. These are easily programmable.

I suspect that the non-programable engines are stuck in some type of loop that prevents programming and yet allows a constant sound production.

Is there a troubleshoot for this frustrating problem.

Thank you

Emergency Strobe Light

Im attempting to model a set of Burlington Northern F units, and from the prototype pictures, there is a strobe beacon attached to the cab roof. Can anyone point me in the direction of a detail parts manufacturer who offers this item?

Thank you for your help.

Miniature turnout decoder

Dear fellow hobbyists,

I have recently decided to develop a turnout decoder to suit my particular situation. I am a model railroader who does not have a fixed and permanent layout, instead I build my layout as I have opportunity and time. Of course, this means that no two layouts are the same and that individual turnouts (many of which can be controlled electrically) change places. To deal with this situation, I came up with a miniature decoder that is attached to each individual turnout and draws power and commands directly from the turnout's tracks.

Old Block Occupancy Detector - Need Information

I have an old block occupancy detector that has gone bad. It has three detectors on one circuit board and is connected by an edge connector. The board is marked with "EDA" and "402-U". Does anyone have any information on this device? A pin-out on the edge connector would be most helpful. Thanks!

DCC in n-scale Bachmann GP40

Trying to decide best way to convert this Bachmann N Scale EMD GP40 to DCC.

See from this TCS article there is some tedious and risky effort involved. Especially with cutting traces on the factory board. https://tcsdcc.com/installation/n-scale/2093

TCS UWT-50 and Thumb Switches

I'll have an update this weekend about the TCS UWT-50 status (still having injection molding issues). But now I'd like to talk about the use of thumb switches. But, before we get into this, I'd like to note that I'm a volunteer on the project--although they do feed us when we visit TCS :-).

SMA40 Modeling with Magnets: Working MU Connections, Brake Hoses, Structure Mounts & Boxes

I was fascinated when I read about Fairway Park Model Products automatic/magnetic air hose couplings for HO scale cars (now offered as PWRS MagnaLock Brake hoses) some eight years ago, because I had tried to build the same myself years before with no joy.

Replacement for Tam Valley Depot Fascia Controllers?

Just found out today that Duncan McRee, owner of Tam Valley Depot, has retired due to illness and their product line is going to be markedly reduced...  Very sorry to hear of Duncan's diagnosis, retirement, and business decision to reduce their product line.
