Question: Amtrak #6 eastbound at Truckee, CA

Hello,
I have watched the eastbound California Zephyr (Amtrak #6) a few times on the Truckee webcam:
http://tahoetopia.com/webcam/downtown-truckee

It is always the same procedure: The trains pulls into Truckee station and the crossing gates in direction of the train at Bridge Str. close. A few minutes later the gates open while the train is still loading and unloading. That I do understand.

System Maps

Good afternoon all,

I am looking for a website that has railroad systems maps but all use the same dimensions for the US.  What I want to do is overlay several railroad maps onto one railroad system map.  I can find a decent US map of railroads but there is so much clutter for a small map.  I am focusing on the 1970's if that helps.

Thanks

Michael

Question - Help and advice needed

Hello All
Merry Christmas!  Need to ask of ppl who have driven trains in the steam era when both a bell and whistle were used and available. Apart from OLC (Open Level Crossings) and signed Bell & Whistle posts.
When else was the BELL required?

I ask as I often see movies and real prototype videos  where  the bell is sounded when moving along a car (bitumen) road to reach a siding, near railway employees working on mains  and in some areas of yard work.

Steam locomotive equipment question

I thought I knew what most of the equipment that hangs off a steam locomotive was, but this has me confused:

Anyone know what these devices are?

Thanks in anticipation

Unique vintage siding

While searching the net for details that I can use while sceniking my industrial areas I came across this photo, which I thought might interest modelers of the 30s and 40s.

Ontario Industrial Railway Operating Rules

Anyone know if the Province of Ontario, Canada has a similar Railway Act like the Province of Alberta does here: http://www.qp.alberta.ca/documents/Regs/2009_338.pdf that governs industrial railways.

I'm looking for the Ontario equivalent to guide the operations of my Domtar Pulp and Paper Mill layout but I haven't been able to find it or confirm if it even exists. If it doesn't exist I'll just use the Alberta rules.

Looking for system's maps for Buffalo NY for late 1990s

So far Google is not my friend! :-\

I am trying to find system's maps for the Buffalo, NY area (actually for Erie and Niagara Counties) for the late 1990's.  I need to find out which railroads served where.

Some sweet narrow stuff from Oz

Hi all,

Following on from a deviation into why stuff was painted red under German steam locomotives at http://model-railroad-hobbyist.com/node/27636?page=56 where I posted the following :

The red paint was for more than just being pretty. for 3 reasons
