IAIS's West End - Atlantic Spur on a shelf
I've always wanted to model more of Iowa Interstate's approximately two mile long Atlantic Spur, the IAIS schematic of which is shown below:
Transfer Terminal Kitbash -- Part 1
I first saw noticed this building 11 years ago while riding the train from Toronto to Ottawa. You get to spend a while looking at it during the station stop at Brockville (the VIA station is on the right). And of course if you're a modeller you think: That cries out to be kitbashed out of Pikestuff!

Advice on obtaining a memorial Canadian Passenger Train
Hi All,
A very good Canadian Army mate of mine was recently killed in a military accident and I want to put together a memorial train to him on my layout. I currently have very little knowledge of Canadian Railways so I was hoping someone could advise me on what I need and how I can get it.
List of Industries, loads, and car types?
Is there an online resource that lists various industries and the railroad related traffic they use?
Basically I'm looking for a list that I can use to populate my waybills with legitimate traffic.
Ideally this would include
- Shipper (load origin, including city)
- Receiver (load destination, including city)
- Product (what is being shipped)
- Type of car used to move the product
- Bill
Oops... There really is a prototype for everything
Looks like someone forgot to check their loading gauge...
More Lost Trains - CP, BNSF, and UP motive power on the BNML, CN Letellier Sub
I found an interesting sight today on the Letellier sub...
CP 8831 leading BNSF 9016 and UP 5575 into the inland terminal at Letellier MB with a BNSF Unit Grain train.
They dropped the train in Letellier and continued light, northbound.
Here they are just heading into Winnipeg. (The CP unit is in the lead.)
The Vanishing Caboose
I ran across this on YouTube. It is a interesting story about the caboose and the last state that required it by law.
Single & Double Sheath Boxcar
Does anyone know if there was a "phase out" date for wooden sheathed boxcars?
I found the build dates, but don't know how long the cars were in service.
I'm modeling 1955 and would like my rolling stock to be appropriate.
railroad scanner app
Does anyone know of a smartphone app that will let you listen to railroad radio traffic. I have found a couple that listen to public service radio and ham repeaters but can't seem to locate one that picks up trains.
