Yes It's NOT a MODEL!

I just ran across this topic "Yes it's NOT a MODEL". Back in 1992 I took this photo of a Detroit Edison coal train on the Monongahela railroad. I have always thought this shot would be a candidate for this topic.

F.P. Nielson & Sons Flour Mill in Mesa, Arizona looks like it will be my next project.

The Cement Industry

Hello all:

I'm looking for information on the distribution of portland cement by rail. I'm not interested in cement manufacturing plants (well I would be if I had room, but...) rather, in facilities where portland cement is loaded into covered hoppers at other than manufacturing plants or unloaded for distribution by tractor-trailer.

Proposed 1:1 scratchbuilt steam engine

A proposal to build a Pennsy T1 4-4-4-4 steam engine is in the process of gathering donations to build the 5550 T1.

This would be the second engine built from scratch that I know of.

For the Prof re: logging

Hope this doesn't put you on the spot, Prof K. -- I'm curious as to the comparisons and contrasts between Australian bush logging and Pacific Coast logging. I thought that maybe the logging fans here, and that includes me, could learn a thing or two. Some of the equipment is similar, but I'm sure the challenges and lexicon are not.

Woodchip Pick-up Service

I've been doing some "exploration" of northern California via satellite maps and street view lately and found a neat woodchip loading spur in clear view of the road:
