Gifts from a railroad shop worker

A friend of my family was off at a wedding a while ago and met someone who worked on a railroad. He was shop worker I beleive. He offered to send something to me, and today I received a switch key for the Indiana Harbor Belt and a caboose whilstle. The whistle isn't too glamorous, but hey! It's cool!

This is my second gift from a railroad worker. My first was a brand new bad order tag for the Norfolk Southern.

Locomotive Sounds

Hi I am looking for a source of MP3´s of Locomotive train sounds of generic steam and diesel locomotives along with just train sounds to play from an iPhone when running a layout due to the fact that I don´t have DCC if anyone knows where I can find some that would be great.

End of Spur Track Question

Took a few photos of the small Greenfield Ethanol plant in Johnstown, ON on the weekend and noticed an interesting arrangement of ballast and wood crossing at the end of the spur for corn unloading. Is the ballast there to slow down any stray covered hoppers before they hit the bumper? What might the wood crossing be for; the track mobile to get on/off the rails?

Here's a photo showing the end of the spur in relation to the rest of the plant.

Visiting New Brunswick, Canada

Will be visiting New Brunswick this week. Any model railroaders out there from the Saint John area? Any must sees regarding old train trestles, structures, bridges, branch lines, museums, etc. I want to take some shots for reference purposes for my next layout. Also any layouts I can visit in clubs or museums?

Faded paint

I model a lot of cars that are within 5 or 6 years of the new/repaint date. I was wondering how long does it take  before the paint starts to fade?

The Schnabel Car

Well I rarely spell the name of this car right so I will try not to but below are some images and videos of it being one of my favorites I wanted to show it to some people though I am sure mostt people have already heard of it.

An Old Magazine Article.

I found this interesting article in the June 1974 issue of True West magazine. I asked for permission to post this on the model railroad forums and very quickly received that permission from the Executive Editor, Bob Boze Bell. Thanks to him! The author of the article is Zola Farris Ambrose.

Can you suggest passenger rolling stock for these locomotives? (N scale)

Sorry to do another 'knowledge begging' post in as many days, but I'm suddenly in a position to include passenger services since my train space just got 3X bigger (I am blessed), and I was wondering if you folks could advise on what's available to run with these locos (or what I need to convert, I'm open to this).

I have:

New Haven RS3

New York Central SW1200

Nickel Plate Road SD7

Norfolk Western GP118
