BL-2 Running Lights

I've been working getting my HO BL-2 running lights working, and thanks to some help on the board, I think I've got it figured out.  However someone mentioned that it would be non-prototypical for the BL-2 to run with all four lights lit at the same time (one on each corner).  I assumed that the first generation diesels would run with all four lit, instead of the two forward lit when moving forward, and the two rear lit when moving in reverse.  Does anyone have any information on this?

Scale of Trees to Trains

I saw this picture today posted on my Facebook feed by a BNSF engineer friend.

That's a lot of coverage there...

Modeling wise, you barely even need a backdrop minus a panorama of trees from floor to ceiling...

Painting under frames

I have several Accurail boxcars that I am planning to assemble (L&N, Monon). My question is; I like to paint the weights and under frames before assembling. To be prototypical, what color should I paint them (black, rust, etc.)? Any suggestions would be appreciated.

California Dreamin'

HI All.  I figure what with the temperature supposed to dip to -10 here in Northern Indiana this weekend, what better time than to throw this out to the masses about an upcoming trip I will be taking the last week of March to visit my oldest son in Los Angeles.  He's 21 and moved out there about 18 months ago, so this will be the first time to visit him as well as my first ever trip to the West Coast.

Paint

Getting back in the hobby after 25 years.  Find paint choices have changed. Will be attempting a shelf switching layout on the Maryland & Delaware RR.  Anyone  know what shade of red is used on the locomotives RS3, and CF7's, looks almost like caboose red. Also need source for decals  in HO. Thanks in advance.  Zeke

Close, but Not Quite

If there is a "signature car" on the BCRY, it would be the grey DM&E ribside covered hoppers which Tag receives. First, let me give you a quick primer on what Tag does:  They are a manufacturer of geosynthetic clay liners, for use as waterproof barriers in landfills, ponds, canals etc.  The main ingredient is Bentonite clay, of which they receive about 100 hoppers annually from two mines in Wyoming.  One mine is served by BNSF, the other by DM&E.

Railroad Car Dumpers - 1894 Style

Although rotary car dumpers seems like a fairly modern invention, the idea of turning a hopper or gon over to dump the goodies out is really pretty old.

Introducing BCRY #1001

Well, technically It's CCGX #1001, the reporting marks of her owner and operator, Cando Contracting. She's 61 this year and looks great! This is a rare phase III GP9 previously owned by the B&O followed by the Ohio Central.  The primary distinguishing feature between a phase II and III is that the latter has two 48" fans instead of the usual four 36". It's kinda like a cross between a GP9 and a GP18.
