Modeling general discussion

Various musings

1) A tale of voe. My Bachmann GP40-2 took a nosedive into the chasm of doom. The dammage was catastrophic enough that a new coupler had it it back to 100%. The durability of this model is awe inspiring.

2) An Idea?!? Since my layout is a wall-mounted L shape, I will only ever see one side of a givven piece of rolling stock while on the layout - what about weathering the 2 sides quite differently? light on one side, heavy the other? give some variety to my (compared to the multi-100 fleets of others) modest fleet of ~50 pieces

So You Want a Model Railroad (1955)

Thought I'd share something I tripped over on YouTube today.

1955 theatrical short starring George O'Hanlon (later the voice of George Jetson) as Joe McDoakes.

Frog construction with juicer

I’m handlaying my track and would like input from other modelers who do the same and have used Tam Valley frog juicers.

I like the look of the frog / wing rails where they aren’t filled with solder and flange grooves cut with a hack saw blade. I think the open look is much more appealing. Since I need to isolate the frog area and am using TV juicers, I’m curious how other modelers who’ve hand laid open have wired for the juicer.

Weekly Photo Fun April 8th to April 14th, 2016

Great work everyone last week!  Time to start of this week's photo thread!

As always, we get as much out of your in-process photos as we do the highly polished "all done" shots!

Kato and loksound Which speaker do you prefer.

Since I sold my boat I am still feeling a bit traumatized by the whole experience. For therapy I have picked up a few locos. I got a P2K sw1200 and a Kato SD-40 on ebay. Both were very reasonable. Surprised I wasn't outbid on them.

And one of the mail order outfits has a sale on Kato SD-40-2 mid BNSF #6744 and 6752. They were 25% off and less than I can find them on ebay. So I ordered one of each.

Great videos on YouTube!

Iowa Modelers

I was wondering how many of you on the forum might be from Iowa? I was curious what parts (If any) of Iowa you might be modeling?

Thanks, Mike
