What's all the blah blah blah of late regarding possible electrical conductivity of cork roadbed AND Arizona Rock and Ballast?

This kinda bridges both the roadbed and track / DCC realms, so I put it here....

I have read in the past week or two at least two reports (various places) that people had problems with their DCC signal with handlaid (and in some cases flextrack put down with spikes or small nails) track over cork roadbed?

And, that the ballast from Arizona Rock and Ballast can be magnetically charged and conduct juice, too?

Air compressor for airbrush

I am going to order a compressor for airbrushing. I did a search and found a number of you prefer the California Air Tools compressors. I like the idea of it being quiet. The compressor in my garage is so noisy it would wake up the neighbors. Is there a preferred model? I sort of like this one as its only 56 db of noise.

Need help finding modern era detail parts for structures

I'm searching for sources of structure details for modern era modeling. As an example I'm looking for security lights  as shown in the photo. I don't need lights that can actually illuminate but most of the returns on searches bring those up.

Battery Box styles for Diesel loco

Here's a question for the forum:

I'm thinking about purchasing an Atlas N Scale GE B23-7 engine, probably undecorated as the RR I"m covering is the Minnesota Commercial Railroad. . I know that it has a thick anticlimber but what has me stumped is the undecorated models are available with either Button Battery Box or Knuckle Battery Box.

Can anyone yield an explanation about the 2 types of battery box?

BTW - the prototype is the former Conrail # 1971 which Atlas does produce but they don't describe the battery box.

Why I love scenery

I LOVE scenery!  Now I'm not slamming "plywood empires" - just sharing an opinion.  One of the guys in an operating group said he didn't care at all if a layout had scenery as long as he could operate.  So here is a question:  do you think  you would enjoy a Star Wars film as much if there were only vehicles and no scenery?  Star ships racing through........nothing....no stars, etc?
