Modeling general discussion

Hi all - new here

Just wanted to introduce myself.  I model southern Arizona copper mining railroads in HO-HOn3.  I enjoy kitbashing and scratchbuilding.  Most of my HOn3 rolling stock is either kitbashed or scratchbuilt.  I will be sure to share a few photos of my projects.  Right now I am working on a mostly scratchbuilt HOn3 2-8-2, a scratchbuilt HOn3 caboose, and some kitbashed HOn3 boxcars.  I'm just now getting into 3d printing of detail parts using shapeways - and just uploaded my first creation - a "K" style brake cylinder last night.

N-scale or HO: coal hauling short line, 1900-1930

I am a beginner. I am considering building a shelf-type layout inspired by Alberta's "Coal Branch" in the Rocky Mountain foothills of about 80-90 years ago.. Smaller steam locomotives, shorter gondolas. I would like to hand-lay turnouts.

What happened to Rob Paisley's wonderful website?

It was located at:  http://home.cogeco.ca/~rpaisley4/CircuitIndex.html  but no longer works!

Rob had accumulated a treasure trove of electronic circuits most of which were inclined towards model railroading applications. Those like me who had seen and/or built his circuits would realize what a tremendous resource it was.

Does anyone has an idea what happened to it and is there a possibility of it coming back online? Really hate to see it go...

Weathering a shingled roof

The finish on this plastic roof got damaged while misting an area on my layout with alcohol so I repainted it.

I would like to give it a weathered look.

Any ideas would be appreciated.

A nice EZ wearthering video

I'm always on the hunt for tips & tricks to make me a better modeler.  As some here know I like what the military modelers do and try and bring it back to trains.  I found this video and thought some here might like it.  Anyway, just passing it on, I hope it helps someone.

Weekly Photo Fun 9/3-9/9/2017

Figured I'd get the ball rolling, seeing how I as doing some experimenting today with lighting.

I'm experimenting with some colour jell flashes to try to get a good "night time" look, and contemplating what colours to use for lighting the layout once it's finished.

Pull-out Electronics Rack?

I have identified where I want my main electronics area to be.  I have a perfect location under the future benchwork with existing access to a pre-existing GFCI outlet and plenty of aisle room in front of the spot.  Now my question is, are there any suggestions for a way to rack the electronics that can be pulled out?  I am thinking either something rolling or else perhaps some sort of sliders.  I would of course need to bundle enough excess cable run length so that I would be able to pull out the electronics rack to have easier access.  Underside of the benchwork w
