MRH Guide to Acrylic Painting - HP Thinner Formula ...
On page 31 of the MRH painting guide there is a formula for High-Performance Thinner which is as follows:
55% distilled water (550 ml)
25% butyl cellosolve (200 ml)
25% Armor All Auto Glas Cleaner (200 ml)
5% acrylic retarder (50ml)
Which adds to 110%, but more to the point to 1000 ml, not 950 as indicated.
The formula immediately below on that page adds to 110%, but to 950 ml as shown.
Apparently there is an error in the first formula?
Architecture scale model
Hello everyone! I am starting to build my first architecture H0 scale model. I want it to be very precise that is why I decided to first laser cut almost every parts. The issue is, the only material I can laser cut is plexi glass, which I know is not the best for painting as it has very smooth surface. Also I don't know if it will give the appearance of walls once painted. What would you recommend me do with this material to make it suitable for my project ? Maybe sanding first? Or using special type of matte plexi ? I would really appreciate your feedback. Thanks

Can anyone start one of these? Bueller? Bueller?
Okay... I'll have a go (if it's okay with the rest of you!
As many of you may or may not know... I've been doing some more work on my layout (and getting a bit silly in the process) So I'll leave you with two... before paint, scenery, and ballasting...

Michael Rose visit / Happy Birthday to me!
What to do when I'm retired? - well visit Michael Rose of course! He posts bunches of pictures on his thread here so no reason for me to post pictures of his layout, but I had to share this picture of the YUMMY Black Forest Cake that we had along with delicious German coffee!

Fall Season Model Railroading Video
Not everyone likes the fall season, but I thought some might enjoy some virtual model railroading featuring our Spruce Coal & Timber adorned in Fall colors.

Taking my time!
While I was employed I felt somewhat pressured to hurry when working on my railroad because time was limited. Now that I'm retired I can S L O W D O W N and take my time completing things on my pike. Takes 6 months to weather a boxcar? - no problem! Takes one year to build a structure? - no rush! Takes ten years to finish my little layout? - SUPER!

Drawbridges
I may be in need of a drawbridge for my new layout design.
i know of, and have one of the nice Walther's ones, but it is too long / large for my space
i remember seeing lots of 'cheapies' when i first got started back in the hobby. I think there were various makers,
Tyco, AHM, Pola, etc ...and some of these were not not that bad, particularly if 'doctored up'
I went looking for images of these various ones, and particularly some DIMENSIONS for them. I'm having trouble finding the info,...HELP

Of Ballast and Soot...
Okay, so... I'm very happy with my ballast... well... on the sides of the roadbed. True, due to the level of the layout, you can only see the middle of the road by standing on a stool, and well... I stand on a stool a lot.
AK Interactive Trainspotting review
AK Interactive is a well known brand of modeling supplies, mostly paints and similar products, such as weathering washes, pigments and filters. Although mainly focused on military modelers it recently made some inroads into model railroading, with 2 sets of weathering products, one for locomotives and other for railcars.
It also published a book, named "trainspotting" to address the needs of model railroaders and military modelers wishing to depict a railroad scene (there are several static models of European trains, in 1:35, 1:72 and 1:87).

So, I was at the local dollar store, and they had Mod Podge... I've heard it's use in model railroading a lot, so, I bought a few bottles of each (high gloss, and matt finish) as well as some tacky glue they had. I found a great use for the tacky glue (I use EZ track, and ballast slides off the roadbed on the sides... but if you smear the sides with tacky glue, problem solved!)
