Templot2 : Free?

Hi Guys,

My first post.  It seems that Martin Wynne's Templot is now for free.  When I tried to download I got a file called "attachments.php"  about 5Mbytes that wouldn't open.  What gives?

Truck for Tank Car N scale

What would be the correct Micro Trains truck [with coupler] for the Roundhouse 50' Modern Tank Car

[Tank Train].

Thanks

Pics of Layout (In Progress)

Here are some picturess of my layout. Your comments are welcomed, but understand that I am not a purist nor a rivet counter. Nonetheless, I was wondering do others use "manual dispatching" relative to switches and signals on a DCC system like I do? My switches are 2 pole 6 ways that let me select which aspect I need. Secondly, my ballast looks much better in person than in the pictures. It is a cheap and neat way to do it, with paint. Also as you will notice I am much farther along on the area that has trees and grass. Pics to follow.    Kyle

The Guy with the Train in his Basement

Over the weekend Jason Shron released a very well done short video about the full size replica of a VIA Rail passenger car he has built in his basement...

Its a pretty impressive project...

Here is a link to a story Global TV in Toronto did on the project earlier today...

Diluting Isopropyl Alcohol

I am considering weathering some freight cars and in my "info gathering" there are recommendations about not using 100% solution of Isopropyl Alcohol as it strips paint!

I can only source 99.9% Isopropyl Alcohol locally.

So my question is can I dilute with distilled water by volume to make 70% & 90%?

Thanks

Opinions Please: Better to go through a scene twice or hide the train once around the room?

My staging yard is directly behind the main yard of my layout.  This makes the yard look larger and is the best use of the space I have.  In order to make the layout seem larger, I am planning on running the train around the room one time and pretending the town is a different town (i.e. having one physical location on the layout be multiple locations along the right of way).  Am I asking for trouble, or is this a good way to lengthen the layout?

Short Hill & Western?

Hi all...

Am wondering if anyone has any info regarding Short Hill & Western's status as a vendor?

Long story short, I ordered a kit from them in early October, and after a few emails back and forth (to have shipped in early November)  they seem to have disappeared. I've sent a few followup emails, left voice messages and no response.

They seem like nice folks, and wonder if something unforeseen or worse has happened to them?

Odd thing to me is their last Facebook updates and website updates were in late October as well.

Where to find out of production kits

I'm having extreme difficulty locating a couple of kits I wanted for my latest incarnation of the M&WV. Where do you guys find such items at a decent price? Already tried Ebay.
