Determining correct measurments

I was reading a post on ken's blog where he cut up a toy car and modified it. http://model-railroad-hobbyist.com/node/5798

In it, he mentions that these cars are typically out of proportion.  I compared a few I have to some better quality cars I have and sure enough the toy stuff is higher.  My question is, how do I find out what the height on a typical toy car should be, if i wanted to tackle something like this?

Finally named my railroad

After years of reading clever and interesting model railroad names I finally came up with one that I like.  The Northeastern, Western & Southern.  N.E.W.S. for short. Decal work should be simple.

I hope everyone is keeping warm and safe. Randy

A Removable Turntable & Roundhouse Hatch

Installing a removable T.T.&R.H?

I may need to install my 120' turntable and roundhouse so that I can remove it as a pop up hatch.

I asked on MR's forum and received some good suggestions such as dowel's/pins for realignment and to take out any slop from the width of the saw cuts. I figured fixing ledge pieces to receive the hatch would be all that is needed besides pins for alignment.

Repairing an Kato HM-7 Motor

Back in January I bought 5 RS-3's from Mike R on the Diesel List. Two of the engines have split gears on the axles that I'm going to fix. Mike told me about them before purchasing them. Since I like to tinker with stuff like this to see if I can fix it he felt bad and through in a motor that was making a noise. He said since I like to tinker maybe I could figure out what is wrong with the motor.

CNJ Industries

Starting some plans for a Jersey Central industrial layout. But I'm looking for more info on specific customers.

I have just about every book and video on the CNJ that I am aware of in existence. All the pics and videos have main line/yard/terminal pictures and clips, nothing of locals or anything else. Anyone out there have any other suggestions?

Going to search around historic aerials and see what I can find.
