Masking tips for painting around rivets

I've been trying to get into painting my locomotives and rolling stock, but I've been having problems with rivets and details. No matter how tightly I try to apply masking tape, I always get pooled paint afterwards. Do you guys have any tips to share?

Thanks!

Train Simulators: This one looks interesting!

Trainz' Model Railroad 2017 simulator for both Windows and OS X:

The subject of simulators came up in the recent Editor's Thoughts article thread (starting to veer off-topic), so I've moved the relevant posts here.

Dealing with the cost and what to go with

Being the drastic cost now showing  in this hobby, and faced with finally a space to plan a layout, I'm a bit torn as to direction, and seeking some input.  I model HO scale and model today'so Era but as a freelance.

making my own buildings have questions

ok so im building a layout design for my nephew and i to toy with so far so good but he asked me if i could build him a custom factory out of elmers foam board no biggie my questions are this

#1 how do i build in in ho scale is there a way to measure it so its in the correct scale

#2 has any one else ever made buildings outta foam board or card board?

#3 whats the best way to make it look like the windows have glass this will be an old factory not a modern one and it will be tall with a smoke stack

best way to light my layout

ok so i use life like power loc track and im kinda going for a turn of the century rail road layout design. I.E. there will be some steam locals and some diesel locos in a small country setting, and im wanting to put a few street lamps on the layout but im new to all this would prefer it if i could some how connect the lamps to my transformer via the accessories connector im on fixed income so the cheaper the better im also open to putting la,ps on the layout even if they dont light as i dont really run my trains in the dark

Latest video - Layout Update #8 Controls/train show/short-line/new locos & more

I thought some might enjoy our latest video - Layout Update #8 Controls, Sharing a Layout, Train Show, New Locos and a Short-line visit

In this video we finish installing controls on the Mountain side of the layout and take a look at our newest locomotives. In our "Sidetracked" segment we share some great model railroad info and visit a great forum and layout build in progress. We also visit a real world inspirational short-line railroad as well as see some of sights at the Great Scale Model Train Show.

Many thanks TMTV

I have been working my way through TMTV VIDEOS , and I watched Lionel with guest Chris Lyon explain how to Paint a backdrop .Chris said that it was in the eye of the person who was painting it.

Well if Lionel could give it ago I could at least try.

If I can ever work out how to send photos to MRH I will be very proud to show my backdrops that only took me 2 days to paint.

Even SHE WHO MUST BE OBEYED said it looks very good

Thanks again to Lionel, Chris & TMTV.

Model trains fighting back

When I was like 7or 8 my layout was Bachmann track on an old king size bed frame with plywood, and at this time I  started experimenting with 1x4s and stuff to see what could create. One particular day I was doing this a board fell on my finger and turned blue and cracked the nail which eventually fell off... man did that hurt. But ever since then I guess it, the blood part of blood sweat and tears in building a layout because there's an uncountable amount of solder iron burns and other thing since then. Some how it's all worth it though.
