Athearn part

Hi, I have a athearn f7 and I am missing the insulator piece that goes between the copper strap and the truck. Does anyone have one?

Oil pastels?

Maybe a dumb question. Can I use oil pastels for weathering? The wife gave me her old artist box. Lots of paints and pencils but I was most interested in the possibility of using the oil pastels. Does anyone use these, and any success? Thank you in advance.

Does any one recognise the layout I remember seeing... somewhere

HI All,

I think I saw on this forum a Southern Pacific prototype layout set in possibly the Bay Area  relatively recently consisting of three sidings on one shelf then curving right with  Long Yard lead on another in an L shape?  Sorry to be vague but I seem to remember the builder also had a web site?  I think I saw pics of SP commuter trains on the track.

Can any one point me in the right direction please on this one?

TIA from Australia

Mainline Modeler-The complete collection:

There was a thread, which I can't seem to find - sigh!, That mentioned the complete collection of Mainline Modeler was available on DVD. After buying a copy I am convinced 90% of the people here would enjoy it. Some thoughts:

1) There is an incredible amount of information in drawings, detailed descriptions, and period photographs.

2) Some stories are laughably out of date. Best example was how to narrow the hood on a Blue-Box Wide Body GP-35 to scale width. Even Athearn doesn't use that shell anymore choosing an improved RPP shell.

HO Scale Locomotive/Car Height

I found information online that from NMRA?, I think, that says the max height of an HO scale locomotive is usually 3 5/32 (3.15625).  Is that rule generally held to?  Or is there height variation, especially on the high side?

Thanks

Weekly Photo Fun - Aug 15-21, 2021

It's another week . . . post 'em if you got 'em.  There were a few late-comers in last week's post.  Check them out, then come back here afterward.

Looking for spare parts to fix up an SD7, having no luck

So, at a big train show today, I picked up an old Proto 2000 SD7 (CNW #1663) that turned out to have a few...problems. Ones that I admittedly should have picked up on given how obvious they are, but the price I got was extremely good and overall the issues are largely just cosmetic in nature as the locomotive itself is mechanically perfect. Specifically, I need to replace the rear numberboard/headlamp clear piece (see attached picture) as well as one of the side cab windows.

Simple Operations system

Simple operations system

Some time back I read a description of a very simple operations system which I have since incorporated into my own layout and I have really come to enjoy it.

Auction score

I scored these np cars at a local auction. Total was 58.00. I an partial to NP and GN.for some reason details look fuzzy but they are very nice.
