Modeling general discussion

Anyone tried this for quick rock face?

I bought some Heki Rock foil as they call it because I failed to consider placing my rock molds on my foam substrate before using the plaster cloth. Since the cloth was already in place and dry I needed a solution that would give real looking rock face but could be applied on the surface.
Here I what I found.

Weekly Photo Fun - Sep 12-18, 2021

It's another week . . . post 'em if you got 'em.  There were a few late-comers in last week's post.  Check them out, then come back here afterward.

NEB&W slowly starting back!

It's been a while, Covid hasn't helped, but the NEB&W is slowly starting to get back together.
The club just posted a bunch of photos of the many sections of the layout and boxes of structures, rolling stock, etc. now in their new location.

Covid restrictions still hamper everything. Reassembling the basic layout will be a lengthy process. But! It's a start!!

Kansas City Hobby Shops?

Good Afternoon Guys

I am going to Kansas city this weekend from Northwest Arkansas, are there any good hobby shops in KC or along the way you could turn me on to?

Thank you - Craig

Blog index for Eric H.

As the date nears to move to the new Forum platform, I thought I'd review my posts. I didn't think I made any as a blog, but I was wrong. Here's a short index. A couple of these go way back to the earliest days of the MRH Forum.

Magnetic coupling.

Years ago, (pre 2000) I ran N scale with magne matic (microtrains, Kadee etc. ) couplers and uncoupler magnet tracks.I am trying to move away from this to get more realistic looking trackage. I recently tried Rare earth magnets under the roadbed but they do not function. In fact it looks as if the coupler is thrown the wrong way to dis-engage the couplers. I noticed the flux field seems to run from side to side instead of end to end and I am wondering if this is the issue?

"For Sale/Swap" Section

Unless I'm overlooking it, I don't see a forum here for model railroad items one may be wanting to sell or swap. I will assume such is verboten here.

I have many items that have been rendered surplus. I dread the thought of learning to use eBay with its charges, hoops, etc, so I ask:

IS there a model railroad forum/site that offers an active "Sell/Swap" forum?

Thanks.

Modeling a weed spray train

Does anyone know where I could find information about weed spray trains? ie: the types of cars in the train and their look and/or features and dimensions? I wonder if any prototype information has ever been published in past years? Any help would be appreciated.

Q&A about the TMTV video series Photo Realistic modeling with Rick Sutton

OK........the first installment of the video series has been released and questions have been arriving here and there relating to the methods/approaches used and I figured it might be a good idea to put the discussions on one easily searchable thread.

 Some general thoughts.
