Modeling general discussion

So long, 'twas nice to know you - ?

Well, as much as Drupal had some minor issues, I learned to live with it. The features were plentiful and navigation was simple and direct. With the new forum, navigation is a nightmare and the "whistles and bells" (features) seem to be lacking. I will continue enjoying the digital magazine, including the Running Extra", but browsing the forum is too painful.

Motor Tool Bits

A post asking about motor tools got me thinking.  It has been a while since i looked into bits for my motor tool.  I dont use my motor tools as much as probably i should.   So i was wondering if perhaps there are bits that i dont think about of know about or uses i don't take advantage of?

So what are the best bits you have for your motor tool and what do you use them for?

Emergency Strobe Light

Im attempting to model a set of Burlington Northern F units, and from the prototype pictures, there is a strobe beacon attached to the cab roof. Can anyone point me in the direction of a detail parts manufacturer who offers this item?

Thank you for your help.

Weekly Photo Fun - Sep 19-25, 2021

It's another week . . . post 'em if you got 'em.

Long articles.

I know you publish what is submitted and I am sure it is difficult to put this thing to bed every month trying to provide the best content. But, does every article have to be 20 pages long? Do you never get submissions of shorter length? For instance this months edition had 4 articles of close to 20 pages each, the one on switches was 16 pages! When I see articles like this I wonder why? Whatever happened to the three page article giving a simple project. Or a short article on.....anything!

Blue Painters Tape

Having spent a fair chunk of time in my workshop of late (Covid Lock down), I had one of those realisations that the subject of this topic has become one of my go to "tools".

Yup, common or garden 1" Blue Painters Tape.

I am sure that most of you are only too well aware how versatile this product can be, but I thought I would share 10 examples of other things i Use the tape for.

Crossroads

After going through a move, I don't have a layout anymore, and nothing was salvaged from the old layout. Not sure where it could be built, but I do enjoy building and painting structures. I won't be using photos as a finish like our good friend Mr. Sutton who has mastered the process. just going to build up a bunch for a small city maybe add some traffic lights. I guess it will be a sort of diorama. It could be added to a layout later without any problems. In a way, it could be the start of a mini, or micro TOMA project. Unfortunately I have no interest in a switching layout.

Old Block Occupancy Detector - Need Information

I have an old block occupancy detector that has gone bad. It has three detectors on one circuit board and is connected by an edge connector. The board is marked with "EDA" and "402-U". Does anyone have any information on this device? A pin-out on the edge connector would be most helpful. Thanks!

HO auto rack performance on 28 in radius curve

I'm putting together my staging yard for my UPRR Evanston Subdivision. What kind of performance can I expect from autoracks on 28" radius curves? This will be level track and up to 28' trains.
