Loksound V5 decoders…hardwire or motherboard?
I’m going to start upgrading and standardizing my older non sound locos with Loksound V5 decoders. My older ones have NCE DASRs or early factory installed sound such as QSI. I hardwired all the ones I installed but I did only basic lighting, front and rear headlights. Decoders today have many more function outputs, meaning many more wires if used. I like the Decoder Buddy system of hardwiring the mother board and making all the lighting wires go to a separate board that can be a plug and play option, along with the decoder itself.

The inaugural run on my Elegoo Mars 3 D printer
The inaugural run on my Elegoo Mars 3 D printer. Two friends, Scott and Jeff, came over and we attempted to run a test print.
A large Winnie The Pooh, a Doc Brown (BTTF figure), an HO scale Bender, and 2 sitting people. Her is the result after a 4.5 hour print. Cleaned, cured and clipped of the "sprues (supports).
Not sure why the Doc was cut off at the waist, his legs did not print.
Model Railroad Weathering - Getting Started!
This video is a seriously revised and updated version that looks at the whole process of weathering, showing how the process and the subject matter drives the techniques that we use. This video also does a brief introduction to some materials you will need to get you started, as well as a teaser of the different techniques that can be used at any stage in the process.

Weekly Photo Fun - Jul 25-31, 2021
It's another week . . . post 'em if you got 'em. There were quite a few late-comers in last week's post. Check them out, then come back here afterward.
Looking for Athearn/Roundhouse Old Time 2-8-0
Folks,
I am looking for an Athearn/Roundhouse Old Time 2-8-0 with DCC and sound. I prefer a New York Central Lines version. If you have one and are willing to part with it, please let me know. I will pay a fair price along with shipping.

Laser Cutter options
So I am seriously considering buying a relatively inexpensive laser. And was wondering if anyone had any thoughts on this.
I started out looking at a K40 class. Costs about 400-600. Add in a new controller and Lightburn Software and we are adding in +400. A few upgrades such as a lift and a honeycomb screen, air assist and such and we are +200-300.
So K40 total is about 1000-1300 when finished. But entry is cheaper and you kind of pay over time (usefull for those of us on limited budgets)
fire-fighting railway wagon
hello, first of all sorry for all the questions and requests. But you are such kind and helpful people. Here is the question I found this tank model used as an anti-fire. Does it really exist and fantasy? Thank you

HO Cleveland Flats Project
We moved from KC to South Carolina last October. I had to give up my FEC layout (see my blog if interested) and find something to model in a much reduced room above the garage. I found just the right prototype thanks to the inspiration in October, 2016 MRH on a flour mill in the Cleveland Flats. Attached is a Google Maps shot, Conrail Zone Chart along with a proposed track plan. The layout is 12 feet X 2 feet using three Sievers four foot models. I am laying pink foam between the beams for light weigh modules.
Polarity on my wall wart
I plan to power a capacitor discharge unit with a 16 volt AC wallwart. The mfg of the discharge unit says that if I use a DC source it makes no difference on the hook up polarity. The connections to the discharge unit are marked plus & minus. So since I am not using the DC source then I need to know the positive and neg wires from the wallwart to be able to connect it correctly.

Fortune cookie
I recently had the perfect fortune cookie fortune for a model railroader who likes operations .
