MRH Magazine general discussion

DC sound, NOT DCC sound

I've got several very nice diesels in which I would like to install sound.  I am aware of the MRC 1000 series, which I believe is no longer being offered, except on eBay.  My understanding of how they were produced is that they had a plug that was comprised of about five wires.  Since the module is wireless I don't understand why any more than two wires are necessary, each to pick up power from a shoe going to a wheel on a track.  I have assumed that in order to install one, then, you simply have to snip off the plug and find out which wires take the

SCREEN READING TRENDS

Here's an interesting projection ... by 2020, estimates are smartphones + tablets will be 10x the number of PCs and laptops. Smartphones and tablets are always on, always connected, and always with you.

Guess where publishers (and advertisers) should be going? That's why our new mobile-friendly MRH Gen 2 is imperative ...

Club open house listing in MRH

First off, let me thank you for how much work gets put into MRH to help grow our hobby on a day to day basis, so much good has already come from the pages of this magazine and the online community that exists here. That said I have always wondered why there are selected events like chapter meetings of NMRA regionals and such listed in the magazine but no listing of current clubs or a monthly spread about upcoming club open houses. Is this not included for a reason or is it just not yet been thought of?

Alaska?

Linda and I and another couple, who are train buffs, just did a two week whirlwind tour of Alaska.

In addition to cruising the Inside Passage, we rode the entire length of the White Pass and Yukon Route from Carcross YK to Sagway AK. In the second week, we rode every mile of the Alaska Railroad's passenger service from Fairbanks to Seward. One day we went to the Museum of Alaska Transportation and Industry in Wasilla. Our travelling companion had helped them acquire a MRS-1 (ARR #1718) by providing matching funds for the other donations. So we had to check the old girl out!

Aug '12 Notes From the MRH Staff

Many thanks for the description of what RRS feeds, blogs, and forums are.  I have seen the terms but didn't know the difference.  Pretty sad for a telecommunications engineer.  I will use the excuse that I'm an old engineer, and have a hard time keeping up. ;-)

Great job to Joe and the whole gang!!

Great series!

The series on scratch-building a steam locomotive is fantastic!  It has a ton of material that can be used for any steam locomotive scratch-building project--all sorts of blind alleys that I won't need to go down :)
