Homemade Speed Lock for Lion-Chief Remote Control
Recently had a 3 year old visit my layout and wanted to try my trains. So I let him use the Lionel-Chief remote figuring even a 3 year old could learn to use it. I gave him instructions on how to use it and he did fine, except that he insisted on churning the control to full speed. Well I got though this adventure and decided to build a little wood device I could slide on my remote to prevent a very young child from sending my engine into apoplexy. I've included the plan here and more details and pictures are available for free download at my blog if you think th
How to remove masking tape without peeling previous coat of paint?
Hello,
I have been experiencing a painting issue recently and I'm not sure if itd due to the change in tape, change in paint, or an issue with the models. I have custom painted alot of my own models prior to them being released such as CSX YN3, Amtrak P42 (Phase 4), etc. During that time Floquil was the paint of choice and I used both Scotch's regular and Blue Painters Tape. After painting, I had no issues with pulling the tape off and not having to see part of the paint come off as well.
Weekend Project Part 4: N-scale Kato PA units with Sound Completed
UPDATED 8/16/15: The video below shows two N-Scale Kato PA1 units with sound decoders along with a PB1 unit being tested in a A-B-A consist. The sound decoder, Digitrax SDN144K0a, is the same decoder that was previously installed in the Kato E8A (April 2015) and two F7A units (July 2015). The PB has a non-sound decoder.
Tip - making it easier to locate different types of ground foam
With my previous layout all of my ground foam containers were in a deep drawer where I couldn't see the contents of the bottles. I first labeled the tops to make it easier to find them but then decided it would be easier to choose a bottle if I could see some of the contents. I used some white glue to attach some of the ground foam to the tops and it is now much easier to find what I need. When I use up a container I save the top and put it on my new bottle.

An Invitation to Some Fun Clinics on Animation and Protoypes Cranes

Attention Canadian Modelers
Attention Canadian Modelers... The Canadian Tire flyer in my part of the country (Woodstock, NB) is advertising digital calipers at $15. If you've never used calipers in your modeling they are wonderful measuring tools. I believe these measure in decimal inches and millimeters. I'm going to get a set as a backup.
Pledge Floor stuff (was Future)
So I bought some Pledge floor care stuff, what used to be called Future. I am planning to use it as suggested with water slide decals to ensure a good bond with the surface and to eliminate silvering. I am also interested to use it as a general gloss coat for models. I am wondering if it can be airbrushed without thinning and if it needs to be thinned what would I thin it with. It looks pretty watery in the bottle. BTW the bottle is blue and white here in Canada. $8.77 at my local WalMart.
