error in diagram 4 for the 80-BH-1 express car

Despite being careful,  I spotted an error I made on diagram 4 of the 80-BH-1 car. (Right hand car side) I actuallly spotted this before submission and corrected it- and by mistake submitted the wrong version, for which I apologize.

Fortunately, the correction is very easy. Part 3 is shown correctly in the fourth row down, but in the fifth row, the door segment at the left with one and one half windows should have been part 6- this would have been cut from original part D from the right hand doors at the edge of the right hand door frame.  I am sorry for the error.

SP Passenger Cars

Great article.   I have been dismayed by the absence of SP passenger cars, especially the "Harriman" designs.  .

Wonderful Series of Articles

This is a wonderful series of articles and Part 5 is especially useful. I hope there is a Part 6 & Part 7...

I have a couple of the Walthers ACF baggage express cars that look like they could be converted to SP 70-BH-2 or -3 horse cars. Perhaps Victor wil show how to do this in a future article?

What about posting the corrected Diagram 4?

Again, wonderful series and great modeling; thanks!

I'm impressed

I'm impressed on the N Scale horse car ... Does that help? Be nice if someone could write up the N scale equivalent for what's available or could be kitbashed in N scale too ... Victor has done HO, but while pasting up the series I could not help but wonder about what's available or possible in N Scale? Oh yes, and there will likely be 3 more parts yet! Lots of how to model this stuff tips!

GREAT PHOTOS

Dear Bremner:

For the last installment of this article there were no comments at all so I haven't been tuning in every day- But this morning it was nice to see evidence of people looking at this article.

Thanks a million for the photos! (I don't usually use a lot of exclamation points)

This is the ideal accompaniment to the article- I had to work from books, descriptions and just a few photos, but now readers wanting to build this model in any scale will have your photos as the ideal reference. Thank you.

I usually get to see upcoming products in N scale but never knew about the 80-BH1 being made.

I was very much aware of N scale as I wrote my article, and wherever I could find N scale equipment that paralleled the HO subjects I tried to mention them. There are even some links to the Kato site earlier on.

The N scale replica looks faithful to the prototype and makes a great addition to the available Daylight cars in making up a San Joaquin Daylight, a Starlight or some of the other streamliners in its later mail and express carrying days ('50s)- or since there were few if any exterior changes from its horse car days it could run on most Any train in the Southwest carrying thoroughbreds.

Thanks again for your input.

Thanks

Dear Grame Texas Steam and Jack-

Thanks for your comments and for reading my article . There were no comments last segment and I was beginning to wonder if people were just leafing past this article and ignoring it.

If I ever did something like this again (which I doubt) I would have included some of the hands features in each segment of the article to keep up interest.

And re the model 80-BH1, as suggested, it should be possible to make one of the earlier horse cars from the Walthers ACF baggage car, or possibly from the resin model by Southern Car and Foundry. (or Wheels of Time in N scale!)

A lot of roads carried horses in triple door baggage cars, many of which were later used in mail and express service.

Here's the corrected diagram:

If I missed anyone, please forgive me, I do read every comment.

Victor,

I have been reading the series faithfully, however, it really didn't relate to us N Scalers. I appreciate the kind words about the pictures of the 70 foot prototype. When the SP made it into a MOW car, it lost it's roller bearings. I have been hush hush about this MTL project because I did not want to spoil it for them. Joe D'Amato posted the sample pictures on Facebook this week. It is really amazing that they went from my pictures taken in November to a tooled model in less than a year.

More N gauge- RE: Bremner

Going back to the early parts of the article I made sure to mention Kato, (N scale) as well as the HO manufacturers BLI and MTH  for their replicas of the Daylight form the whole basis of my article.

It is only the current parts of the article actually deal with modeling the trains.

Brass Car Sides and Train Station Products are mentioned, and while I did not specify the scale, accessing their online catalogs through links provided, the reader can see that kits are available in both N and HO scales.  I did not include mention of Wheels of Time, who has N scale  car kits of Harriman cars, and this omission was my fault. I will try to make sure I include all the N scale info and links whenever possible.
