Layout Animation Ideas?

The teacher in charge of model railroad club has an abundance of basic DC motors simillar to the image shown. Does anyone have some ideas on uses for them in relation to railroads? I know there are many creative people here so I thought I would ask.

LED Lighting for your Layout - one way to do it downloadable PDF file

Currently there are a couple of threads on MRH about LED room lighting.  I've posted previously on my MRH blog on my conversion to LED for my layout room and the thread became fairly lengthy.  Thank you to all that posted your comments to that thread!

I've recycled and condensed that thread into a downloadable PDF for those who what a quicker read and I've posted it on my Richlawn Railroad website.  You can follow the link below and right click on the file to download it.

Opinions on mounting LED strip lights for layout lighting?

I plan to use LED strip lights to light a significant portion of my new layout.  The layout is a mushroom design with 3 levels. I plan to light the lower and middle levels using the LED strip lights. Each strip is 5 meters (about 16 ft) long. I plan to use 2 parallel LED light strips mounted to the bottom of the benchwork of the level above.  Lighting the lower/middle levels will require approximately 30 of these 16ft light strips (240 linear feet * 2 = 480 linear feet of strip lighting).

Uncoupling inside a building

I model HO scale, Kadee couplers with the trip pin removed from the Kadee. A skewer is used for uncoupling.

As I'm progressing on the layout and thinking of buildings, how do I uncouple a car once the car is in the building? Do I need to position the coupler a specific way first? Then push the car in and pull back, leaving the car in place? Thanks.

Installing RailPro in a pair of Athearn DCC Ready Genesis GP38-2W's

I threw RailPro modules into my 2 GP38-2W's yesterday to get them onto the layout for an op session today. There was no speaker enclosure in these models so I skipped the sound.

That bothered me something terrible - so today I ripped them apart and did it right!

The details of the installation are in the first comment.
