Modeling California in the Great State of Hawaii

I sit on a ridge in a jungle valley looking through flowering trees to the distant mountains.  The air is fresh and fragrant.  The birds celebrate the day in song.  When it rains, which is often enough, I work on my model railroad because I like trains.  But more than that,  what I really like to do is to create a world in miniature and the trains are my vehicle to do so.

SP SHASTA ROUTE LAYOUT TOUR

Hi Y'all

I decided to quit procrastinating and start a blog.  I'll probably post mainly about my main interest which is modeling prototype freight cars, but for my first post I figured I would introduce myself and my layout.

About me:  I live in the Nashville TN area.  I have a lovely wife and son.  I'm self-employed as a cabinetmaker.  My other interests are deer hunting and bass tournaments.  This is my fourth layout (second layout that wasn't sectional track on a sheet of plywood).

Matthews Freight Yard

This is a picture of the Matthews Yard as it exists today on my layout.  The picture was taken by my friend, Bob Wheeler.  I built the yard as a "newbee" and made some serious mistakes including putting 6 of the 9 tracks at the back of the yard instead of the front.  The good news is that the yard section (30" wide by 13-1/2' long) is built as a section.  I can build a new yard section outside of my train room and switch it out in a few hours.  I'll probably use the buildings over.

Ghost River Railway

Hello all.

This is my first video of the layout that I am building. I figured that this would be easier than trying to make a track plan at this stage. Just to many other things to do at the moment. Still lots of work to do on all aspects of the layout, but things are moving along. The track plan leaves a lot to be desired, but it's about all I can do in the space I have available. My real world interchange/parent company is Canadian Pacific. Only one small extension to add on and then benchwork will be complete.I hope I don't bore you.

N-Scale CSX Dixie Line Update

I just wanted to post a quick update on the progress of my N-scale CSX Dixie Line layout. This is a modern-era layout modeling CSX's super busy single track mainline from Atlanta to Nashville through Chattanooga. I have been a member of the MRH website since the early days, visit here often and immensely enjoy the online publication. For some reason I rarely post on these forums or blogs, but I wanted to share this update with the community because I owe a great deal of credit to Joe Fugate and all of the folks involved with Model-Trains-Video.com.

Uboat 2909 crossing the trestle

I've recently joined an operating group, the North County Interchange Operating Group and Friday 2/19 was the first time they were at my house for the Friday night work session.  Most of the guys are in the building stage, so we've yet to do any actual operating.  One of the guys, Bob Wheeler brought along his camera and tripod to shoot some pictures and the shot below is my favorite.   Besides taking pictures we also starting the early planning of the expansion of the railroad into a 15-1/2' x 29-1/2' unfinished area of my basment.  Th
