A wonderful gift for my railroad - an L&N baggage car!
One of our fellow members of the MRH site (who wishes to remain unnamed) emailed me to ask if i would be interested in having a L&N baggage car as a gift and of course I said yes. He had received the car as part of a lot that he had won on ebay and knew that I modeled the L&N. It's a great car and is presently in my yard area where it can looks great among all of the freight cars. Thank you for the generous gift, my MRH friend!
Roadbed complete! Homasote and stress testing next.
I finished the benchwork the other day - just about five weeks, start to finish on the 15'x17' lakefront division between Duluth and Two Harbors. Now I'm putting down homasote and using it as an opportunity to do a little stress testing. Gluing the homasote needs some weight... Probably not this much:
LokSound Decoder Differences?
Hello,
I'm deciding on a decoder for my first install, and a bit uncertain on differences between my choices.
It will be for an old P2k SD9 (circa late 90's) which was not DCC. Only a circuit board I believe for lighting which I removed.
I'm leaning toward LokSound Direct Select, but before I pull the trigger I'd like to know if there is a difference between the decoder on the Direct Select and the Select 8 pin in terms of:

Dispatching on Steve Davis' KCS 3rd Sub
One of the advantages of living in Tulsa OK is the plethora of large operation oriented layouts in the area. One of these is Steve Davis' KCS 3rd Sub in Coweta just NE of Tulsa. I am lucky enough to be one of the regular crew and have recently "qualified" as Dispatcher.
The following is a description of the layout and the functions of the dispatchng system.

Recycling quarter-round trim
We redid our basement floors a few years ago and I ended up with about 30' of unused 3/4" oak quarter-round baseboard trim. I have since chopped it up into 3" lengths for cleats on each of the risers. I cut a few extra long cleats to allow for clearance in awkward locations where the riser won't fit right below the roadbed.
Smallest radii possible?
Looking for feedback on an industrial/marine/rail minimum track radius. I need to get track into the warehouses and out onto my docks in a short span if possible.
Obviously I will be using small switch engines, and nothing longer than 50' cars.
What have you used or seen used successfully?
Thanks in advance,
Rob

DCC Power Savers
I learned at a clinic at the Cocoa Beach Proto meet about DCC Power Savers. If this is not a new product please forgive me. I think this would be perfect for my steam locos. Just a few few questions: What are the Power Savers you are using? Are they better than a basic capacitor? Are they Plug and Play or are is there soldering involved?

Question about modeling tubular diaphragms...
Currently, I am modeling the Norfolk Southern OCS in N-Scale. The prototype have what appear to be tubular diaphragms and I am now trying to figure out what size (again, this is for n-scale) heat shrink tubing I should use---as I have MTL heavyweight cars with the body mounted couplers for observation cars and sleepers, but have Rapido & Centralia Shops cars for the lightweight coaches and diner---as well as to what way would be best to attach it to my cars (ie. CA glue, etc.)
Any suggestions and/or tips would be GREATLY appreciated.
