Unloading grain
The unloading grain from boxcars previous post from the other day seems to have gone off on a tangent. Didn't most small industries like a flour mill or a distillery (Kentucky bourbon is 51% corn) just shovel the grain out of the car? Was the pit the same width as a car door? Were both grain doors removed or just one side? Was the pit covered when not in use so workers or trainman didn't fall into it?
Today when unloading a grain hopper is only one hopper on the car unloaded at a time requiring a Trackmobile or locomotive to move the car?
Proto 2000 SW9 DCC Problems
Looking for some advice of a HO Proto 2000 SW9/1200 (920-41418) with factory installed sound decoder. Purchased the unit at a show, and after getting on the track discovered that the sounds work OK, but the engine motion seems to be incorrect. Unfortunately no manual with the box, so I can't figure out what settings may be. The engine initially was sluggish moving so I cleaned the wheels (although they didn't look bad) and noted a little improvement and the engine moved just fine.

Basic question about switching an industry
Hello everyone. I've been finalizing my track plan and have been looking at it from an operations point-of-view to hopefully eliminate any serious faults before I put the saw to wood. The layout is pretty basic: HO scale, 4' x 6' oval with three customers and an interchange track. There is one run-around that will hold 9 wagons (8 freight + brake van); and (if it matters) it is UK outline (0-6-0T locomotive and 20' wagons) just because I wanted short equipment.
Vaporizers?
So I had the tv on in the background while I worked on my layout, when all the sudden a commercial for vaporizers came on. It got me wondering, is it possible to put vapor pens filled with water into an HO scale smokestack and have a working smokestack? I've searched on the internet but the vaporizers are either way too big or don't hold a whole lot of liquid. Has anyone else made working smoke stacks with maybe a different method or have any idea on how to make the vaporizer method work? Thanks.

Modern craftsman style kits - era 70s-2000
I love the look of the craftsman style kits but I am modeling in the mid 90s era of SANTA FE around the time the c30-7s and the dash-8s and sd40-2s were kings of the rail. But when i look at the kits that may be around for this era i do not find alot of cratsmans style or kits up to that quality.
Be nice to know where as the cornerstone and like don't quite take it far enough or is there a whole in the market i wonder
Does anyone have ay ideas where to start looking
