Modeling topic
small slugs
I'm interested to find out if any railroads had or tested/experimented with single truck (presumably 3 axle) slugs. I have an obsession with B units, slugs, fuel tenders, etc. and the thought occurred to me last night that that might be the answer to a short line or yard that needed a little more oomph for some jobs. Just a question with maybe no answer. Kodachrome John P.S. never posted a new topic before (does it show?) so any corrections needed by Mr. Fugate may be done as necessary.
Scale Trains + ESU Help?
Short story: I have a Scale Trains SD40-2 with LokPilot5 purchased separately. I can't control the beacon (it is just on steady) or find connectivity between decoder mounting pins (with decoder removed) and 'E' pad on mother board.
Second issue, 3 ST SD40-2 with ESU decoders make a sound like a short as soon as track power is turned on. They seem to operate normally but the noise is annoying. It diminishes when I touch the sides (non-metal) parts of decoder. Other (Atlas, Bowser) locos with ESU decoders are quiet.

Quad Servo DCC Decoder – Arduino Software Update
When setting up your servos with the Quad Servo DCC Decoder (see https://model-railroad-hobbyist.com/node/42087 for details), if the servo stalls against an endstop for an appreciable time then you may notice that the heatsink attached to the voltage regulator gets rather hot and, in extreme cases, this can cause the regulator and the QSDD to shut down.

First Run on my Layout!
I've finally completed the first section of track on my layout. Below is a video of the first "official" train to run. Enjoy!
Athearn SD40-2 DC to DCC
I have a 37+ year old SD40-2 and would like to install a new DCC motor. What all do I need to do this? I also need a new rear worm drive assembly for the rear. What is a good source for old parts? Any help is greatly appreciated.
Trains to Bingham Canyon.
The first trains to the canyon came 1873 by way of the Bingham Canyon and Camp Floyd Railroad. The coming of the railroad finally made the mines at Bingham flourish.

Battery Powered Full Size Locomotive
https://newatlas.com/transport/world-first-battery-electric-locomotive-fuel-consumption-wabtec/
Rail technology company Wabtec has demonstrated an electric locomotive that could help lessen the environmental footprint of heavy-haul freight services. The company's battery-powered FLXdrive locomotive was used as part of a hybrid system over a three-month trial, where it reduced the fuel consumption of the entire vehicle by 11 percent.

Backdrops
I am looking for a sky back drop for my layout. I have tried to reach Dave at Backdrop Junction. Does anyone know if they are still in business?

Can you suggest other places to by backdrops?
Thanks

Two version of the New Colorado Front range RR
For me when starting a new railroad (this will be my 14th) I like to start with the bench work. What will fit in the space, how big are the aisleways, setting minimum mainline radius for the layout. As I model the prototype i then work to fit that into the space I have set. The nice think about a large layout is moving a inch or two here or there I can do as long as I keep my minimums. so with that thought here are two idea I have for the new space one with the thought less is more.
