Other Alternatives To A 4X8 Layout?

Many people want to enter the model railroading hobby with a HO scale train set(with a circle or oval of track). But, there are a lot of apartment dwellers, condominium dwellers, and urbanites that don't have enough room to build a 4 foot by 8 foot layout(4X8). The 4X8 may not be the best footprint for some people to get started into model railroading because you would need at least 8 feet by 10 feet of space to fit that table into a room(by putting a 4-foot side of the plywood against the wall and having at least a two-foot aisle to walk around the layout).

Wire for DC layouts

My apologies if this has been answered again and again, Google couldn't find it and neither could YouTube.

I am building a HO DC layout with zero plans to go DCC down the road. My layout consists of a 6 track freight yard that merges into the main line loop that has one siding and an additional dead end. I am using a dual cab controller (MRC Twinpack from the 70s it was my dad's) and Atlas Connectors to create a total of 6 blocks (3 per cab) My layout is two4x8 tables and a 2x6 table in a U shape.

Cornhill and Atherton - Glanton Town (and a Doodlebug)

Rather more quickly than I expected, I managed to make a decision about whether to build Glanton or Cornhill next.
Cornhill is the interchange between the Antioch Southern and Cornhill and Atherton railroads and as such will be a more significant area. Buildings will be more substantial and more of them, so I decided to build Glanton first, which is a bit more rural and open. It also links the completed scenes of Insular Gorge and (from some time ago) Matrimony hill; aka "The Wedding Cake".

N&AC Operations

I designed and built the Nicholas & Ashley Creek RY to be operated either by myself or with a crew of up to 4 people.  I am several years into construction now and the trains are beginning to run.  I haven't started formal operations yet, but I'm exploring ways and means to get there.

This blog will chronicle developing operations on my railroad.  I hope to show what I'm doing and discuss operating ideas with others.  Hopefully this blog will be useful and interesting to those thinking about how to operate their model railroads.

Painting People

Before & After:

My passenger cars need some people so I ordered and received a couple packages from China and was pleasantly surprised that the figures are not badly done.

Withrottle problem

When I use my Withrottle it will not display the dual throttle mode.  That is the mode in which it displays 2 throttles on one screen.  It used to display dual throttles, but stopped doing it.  I can't find any setting for "dual throttle" display. How do I get it back?  I have googled the question to no avail.

Sad news posted on a yahoo forum this morning:

A Different Way to Install Touch Toggles

I’m redoing my control panel to use the Touch Toggle products from Berrett Hill (www.touchtoggle.com) but I’m not using the usual process of taping them to the back of my printed track schematic.  So I decided to post what I’m doing as I go along knowing that I will get some good ideas from others and maybe be of help to someone else.  DISCLAIMER:  I have no relationship with Berrett Hill other than as a very satisfied customer.

I look forward to your comments!
