Layout Update #3 - Construction and Destruction
This month I finish a wall, replace a door, and emphasize the importance of finishing the layout room before beginning the benchwork.
New sights on the MRH forum!
Hi Joe,
It’s early in the morning so I may have missed one. A couple of new items showed up on the forum this morning. Who is on line was one. Neat! The second was “Mark as spam” in a post. I wasn’t sure what that button was meant to do. Could you elaborate please? Are there some more menu buttons above too?
Thanks!
Nick
Making a toyish model of a crane into something more realistic.
I got out an old Model Power crane and decided to keep it and make it a little more realistic.
So far I carved off the steps and grabs and replaced them with brass ones. I also did some light weathering.
Looking for some more ideas to make it suitable for the late fifties.

This video is in 2 sections - in Section 1 I show you how to remove and clean the parts, then how to assemble the signal.
In Section 2, coming in the next two days, I will show you how I install the LED, complete adding the final parts of the signal and paint the signal ready for mounting on the layout.

WIP Update #1 -VIA Rail F40PH-2 in N Scale
Update on my Work-In-Progress, VIA Rail F40PH-2 in N Scale, in the early small Canadian Flag scheme.
Today I was able to complete several stages including masking and airbrushing the black areas of the roof, nose and bottom of the Kato shell.
Fun with view blocks and background photos
For the last week i have been working on a "disguise" for one of two entrance into my staging area. One is a highway overpass which is still developing. The other turned out to be with help from a Walthers Pellet Transfer a scratbuilt plastics plant. After constructing these I also added backgound phots of trees/ foilage and a city scene from the actual town I model.
Attached are a few photos illustrating my progress.
Enjoy,
Barry

JMRI - decoder programming "best practice" question
I am about to start programming a Tsunami 2 1100 sound decoder and I have a question about what is "best practice" when using JMRI on a brand new decoder.
Can I assume that JMRI has the "correct" defaults pre-loaded, or should I load all sheets from the new decoder before I start changing CV values?
Thanks in anticipation ......
