Modeling topic
Rule books
Hi gang,
first post for me so be gentle! I was wondering if anyone has a good comprehensive rule book for model train ops. I may be in over my head but I am curious. The best I could find was prototype info which is way too complicated for my small operation. Any help will be appreciated.

Receiving E-Mail Replies to Forum Topics of Interest
Is there a way to have replies to topics to which I've contributed or have an interest E-mailed to me similar to the feature on the MR forums? This would save having to go back to check for new additions on older forum topics in which I have an interest. This feature on the MR forum can be turn off when you no longer want to receive updates to the specific topic.
Thanks,
Bob
Help needed Walthers kit instructions
Hello everyone!
I'm hoping to get a little assistance.
I just received a Walthers kit, the Allied Rail Rebuilders, kit number 933-3016.
It is missing its instruction sheet. Does anyone have a set they could copy and mail to me? (USA)
I'm sure I could muddle through it ok, but I'd feel better with the instructions.
The kit is retired, Walthers can't help. Hopefully someone here can.
Thanks in advance,
Jeff

Power District Wiring Options/Question
I have started laying track in my staging area and figured that I should start planning for power distribution sooner rather than later. This staging area is a 24' long "L" shape through staging. Each throat will be it's own power block as will each staging track and the through track. I will end up with 8 power blocks in this one power district. I am planning on using the Tam Valley Depot 5 Amp DCC Booster Board (DAB002) for power and a circuit breaker specifically for this power district.

MRC Diesel Sound Only Decoders
Hi Jack from Star, Idaho. I have five dummy BNSF HO prime movers that I installed MRC sound only decoders in and I want to make some changes such as volume levels etc but for the life of me I can not find my manual that shows the CV values. Is there anyone out there that has a manual or tell me where to find one? I checked MRC's web page but had no luck in finding one...

railroad energy efficiency
Here is an interesting little article on the advances made in energy efficiency by the railroads.

Regarding mpg for trains, there was an answer posted by engineer Al Krug on his website regarding that. 15,000 tons of coal being hauled up a 1½% grade by 6 SD-40's is about 48 feet per gallon of diesel.
Frog Juicer vs Turnout Motor Contacts
I am confronting wiring up the 40 odd turnouts in my layout and am curious as to the tradeoffs between using frog juicer circuitry to power my frogs or the switched contacts on the turnout motors? I am using both Tortoise motors and Atlas solenoids -- the later on the upper shelf of my layout. Motive power is pretty much all short wheelbase steam, so powered frogs to avoid turnout stalling seems pretty much mandatory. Using the contacts provides deterministic frog polarity where as the frog juicer appears indeterminate as it is driven by short detection.

Never Stall
I just noticed this in the May NMRA bulletin. Has anyone used it? I am constantly striving for zero locomotive stalls due to track and loco condition so it piqued my interest.
BQR Deseronto Yard Layout Firming
The jello that is the yard layout for Deseronto is stiffening. Track for passenger service (under the shelf for the upper level) and the yard ladder has been finalized and spiked/glued in place. Access to the service areas and industry tracks (back left corner) have firmed up considerably. There have been many iterations of this layout/review/rethink design process.

Homasote Installation on the 8th Sub
I've been installing Homasote sheet for the 8th Subdivision's Junction City yard. Instead of screws or white/yellow glue, I've used contact cement intended for such applications as countertop laminate and veneer:
A coat on both the Homasote and plywood is brushed on and allowed to set following the label recommendations.
